I doubt that a rise of a pound or two per deer shot, in ammo costs, is ever going to impact on whether or not folk go stalking.
In all likelihood it'll be the cost of driving to and from your ground that stops you. You have to pay that even on blank outings.

It might not stop people going stalking, but it will diminish target practise.

It has been pointed out that there is very little young blood coming into deer stalking.
With all the kit that is needed to start stalking.
The addition of high ammo prices, will have an effect on those thinking of doing so.

Can’t believe the price of factory .22 hornet now, last time I bought this stuff it was £13.00 a box….

You need to start reloading, with the amount of powder used hornet is one of the few cartridges that will show real cost benefits from rolling your own.

That said if the last time you bought some the price was £13 then you may take a bit of time to see the benefit!

Not sure I agree, a reasonable percentage of those recruited into stalking will come for other shooting disciplines. Most other shooting disciplines use a lot more ammunition so ammunition costs will become a barrier to people entering those disciplines and therefore stalking as a result.

Curious to know what Rws prices are in the UK.

Hi, the last couple of boxes I bought were RWS Evo Green 30-06 139 gr at £62 for 20, but RWS Hit 165gr were £112. As my usual Barnes TTSX (approx. £80 to £90) were sold out I grabbed one of each. I live in Austria now but my stalking is in the UK where I still work. For range use I just get the cheapest lead.

Doing some one pest control for free is a bit crazy, you dont see mechanics trying to service a combine for free

Trouble is, there's are many people out there willing to do it for free, so if you want the shooting permission, you also have to do it for free.

Think I'll stick to rimfire, 17hmr 20 quid for 50 hornady 17gr. 22lr 7 quid for 50 hornady 40gr. I don't shoot anything bigger than fox and that's only if it appears on the day and my 17hmr is granted for fox. 22lr is fun to shoot and great for rabbits and ground squirrels. I do believe ammo prices are driving most to the calibre rifle they decide to shoot.

Yes, at the moment manufacturers are concentrating on making military ammo, when they have time, they make some sporting cartridges.
Mono copper and traditional lead core don’t have power same production lines, so what spare capacity there is seems to go to the traditional lead core stuff.
It’s not going to get any better soon.

They sell ammo in Croatia that way . The hunters don’t bother checking zero much and recon 3 shots = 2-3 boar killed
