Primos Trigger Sticks Maintenance

Does my memory serve me correctly that someone on here did a step by step guide on stripping down and servicing a set of primos sticks? TonyC maybe?

I could do with a reminder if anyone knows what I'm on about!

Mine been working fine for a couple of years now (always wiped down after) but going to bank this thread just in case :thumb:

I've had mine for six years now without any issues at all. OK, so they don't get daily use, nowhere near it, but I keep them clean and give the legs a spray of PTFE dry lube from time to time. No issues yet, touch wood

Having done a few now....the only thing I’d add to Orion’s excellent post is that some of the plastic ferrules have been glued on there really tight and a hot air gun over the joint for around 30 or more seconds softens the glue...the plastic ferrule doesn’t melt. Certainly easier to do this from scratch rather than risk busting a blood vessel or deforming the tube in a vice.....

Putting them back together I’ve also used a bit of heatshrink over the ferrule to make future servicing easier...but then electrical insulation tape has the same result?

Otherwise....a 12bore cleaning rod is a perfect fit for cleaning the inside of the outer tube.

I did a set that had been previously had a go at by someone else and they’d lost/left out the thin white nylon strip resulting in the leg rattling around and extending too quickly.

The mix of metals in the locking end of the leg doesn’t help.....fundamental design error to my mind.....perhaps it never rains where they’re made? :-|

I've had a look at mine as I've had a problem with the lower section of 1 leg completely detaching when fully extended.

Looks to me that it's as simple as the glue on the ferrule at the joint coming away. If I were to glue the ferrule back on, problem should be solved?

Does that sound feasible? Never had a problem with the legs sticking to date as quite liberal with the gt85 after a shooting session.

Clean all of the old glue off then put a rap of electric tap around the top of the leg and push the ferrule back on. You can then remove the ferrule if future maintenance of the leg is required.

From 2016 -
Failure to deploy is often cured by resetting the trigger cam inside the handle, remove the handle casing and rewind the cam and rod, as you use the trigger over time it moves so far up that it is not pressing the leg controller hence failure to work. I do it about once every 9 months and it takes about 15 minutes even with my sausage like fingers. Cleaning the leg cams aslo helps smoote operation.

From Flyer4u0,
what I did was:-
pull the bottom section of leg off the plastic collar.
the foot valves, if you can call them that, are operated by a push rod from the trigger in the handle (see TonyC's post).
on mine one moved a bit, two were jammed .
careful not to loose the plastic gasket bits that look a bit like cylinder rings in an engine.
clean up all the valves,
I used WD40 and tissue paper, I used the trigger, and pulling the valve out to release them,
when released clean the section of the pushrod exposed when you pull the trigger. I used a zip tie to keep the trigger in the fully pulled position.
dry with tissue.
lightly grease with silicone grease.
refit plastic gasket things, I wound mine tightly around a pencil first, made them hold a tighter shape while refitting.
refit lower leg.
I used insulation tape to wrap around joint when reassembled to stop the leg dropping off - thought about glue, but might need to clean again in the future.
