+1 for using a kinetic hammer on a totally solid surface: I use a lintel. But wood, even end-on to the grain, just absorbs too much energy, and dampens the effect of the strike.

Serious question: in the event that you get the primers out safely, what do you do with them then? Hand them in next time you are on the range?

I'd concur with everything that others have said about the advantages of pullers over kinetic hammers. Regarding the primers either leave them in place & reload your primed cases or gently push out with your depriming tool and reuse them as normal

I just soak any waste primers in a little oil then bin them; I don’t think I’d ever bother trying to reuse them just in case.

Mmmm I've just pulled 14 factory federal copper with a kinetic hammer. Some took as much as 18 hits and some came out with 4.I put wadding in the hammer to protect the tips

Trick with a KH is to hit it against something hard, wood is pretty useless - I use a half brick and get good results.

They work fine, they are as good as new, no need to waste them.

Collet is the way to go if you want nice(ish) bullets
Primer can be removed in the normal way but best to be gentle.

An improvised way is a pair of mole grips. Put bullet in the holder. Raise the press until the bullet is sticking through the hole at the top of the press. Grip bullet with mole grips. Lower the press. Same as the collet really.
