Pulsar N355 ultra

Just took early delivery from father xmas of a pulsar n355, first look in the garden is quite promising, im just gonna nip up the farm to have a proper look through it at distance, anyone already using one?
if so how are you finding it ?

As a direct comparison there the same sensor and lens as the pulsar N970 in a different body housing. Great little units, but Pulsar need to offer something more than 3.5x magnification for the UK market IMO to compete with the Drone style units, there more suited to big close range game at them magnifications and lose quality rapidly when digital zoom in applied, if they did bring a higher magnification option out, they would sell a lot!

The N250 will hit the UK early next year at some point with 5x magnification and full colour recording though.

Got to agree with that - the N355 is more suited to shooting hogs than foxes.

Well ive had a chance to look through it at quite some distance, whilst i do think that supplied IR is "adequate" out to 200yds the scope really comes alive with a better Ir, i tried an armasight ir on it and have to say at the distances im comfortable shooting foxes at its more than good enough, i only looked out to about 300 ish but at that distance i had 100% ID on rabbits, and would easily ID anything really, the unit is not drone pro, but then its £1000 cheaper, having said that the drone pro is not in my opinion £1000 better in terms of picture quality/performance.
im gonna get it on a rifle and give it a decent run out, as with any night vision i think i need to try it in different weather conditions to get a complete understanding of its true potential.

The N355 costs £1250, a Drone Pro costs £1750 - I make that £500 difference, not £1000

As you have found, the Digisight Ultra needs a really good illuminator to get any reach. I'd hoped the N355 would offer Drone-like performance, but it really doesn't. To my mind, then, the question isn't whether to pay £500 more for a Drone, but whether the extra performance over a Photon is worth an additional £650. I must confess that I've tried both the Photon and the Digisight Ultra this year and didn't really get on with either. Image quality wasn't the whole story either, as I found both lacked sufficient adjustment to zero on some of my rifles. With the Photon, I could use adjustable mounts, but with the N355 all I could do was zero to a different part of the reticle.

The N355 has lower magnification meaning that it has a much wider field of view than the Drone pro.
33 feet at 100 yards for the N355 and 13 feet at 100 yards for the Drone Pro
Therefore, at a given distance, the area to be illuminated by the IR is about 6 times larger for the N355 than for the Drone Pro.
Unless you want a illuminated spot in the centre of the FOV surrounded by darkness (which kinda defeats the whole purpose of the thing) then you'll need a sh*t load more IR to illuminate a given scene than would be needed for a Drone Pro.

I’ve had 4 drone pros now and every single one has suffered from the blue screen issue! **** poor that this hasn’t been addressed yet as it’s been an issue for hundreds or thousands of units over the years.
Great image but I will never have another one

Took the n355 out last night, i put the latest IR available from armasight on it, i have to say that after taking the time to adjust the settings properly(brightness,contrast etc) i got the unit working very well, i was looking at a heard of alpacas at around 240 on 3.5 mag and the picture was chrystal clear, upped the mag to 7 and it was still very clear, even on 3.5 i would if needed have taken a shot at a fox.
At 200 for example a headshot would not be a problem.
At the distance i was looking at i recon it is as good as a dronepro with the armasight IR and with the supplied IR well usable and better than the photon

Bruce gave me a bit of advice when I started with NV

People look thru a NV device for 5 to 10 seconds then proclaim its **** and don’t want to know ......advice was ....take the time to play with the eye focus and the objective end focus and even the flood to spot IR if have it....there will be a sweet spot that may just take few mi it’s dicking about with till you find it but when you do it miles better than initially thought.

Everyone’s eyes are different so play with it

I am having problems with my N355 losing zero. It's 3 months old and has lost zero 3 times, which for foxing is unacceptable. Does anyone have similar problems or knows the answer via a firmware update ??

I have had two both lost zero look through the eye piece at an angle with the unit turned off until you can see square digital screen and you will see cracks around the outside i sent both of mine back i use a pulsar argus now

As far as I know the N455 is not available yet.
I have never had a problem with POI shift with my N355, but then I do make sure there is no movement under recoil of the mount on the rifle rail by packing out the gap in the recoil stud and blocks.

I’ve had my N355 for a few months now. Have to say I’m very pleased with it. It’s on my .204 for foxing setup. Was out last night on a stubble field just waiting and watching. Scanning about with my hand held thermal which is rubbish, saw some movement, I had been watching some deer with the N355 at about 500y so was pre focused, Switched to rifle and saw Charlie clear enough at about 400y. Called him in to about 70y and that’s that’s, was a little bit out of focus because I hadn’t refocused after watching the deer. I have a wicked lights IR on mine. If you can clearly identifiy something at those distances what more do you need for that price. I usually have it on x3 as it’s a nice wide field of view, once ive found my victim switch it on to x7 mag. It if it won’t come in close I might switch to x14 because at longer distances on x3 the reticle can take up a lot of your target. The picture in picture is a nice feature but don’t really use it. The image isn’t great at x14 but good enough to get a clear aim point and identify your victim. At x3 and x7 the image is great IMO. Never going to be TV quality and does it need to be. My only gripe with it is the recording feature, very temperamental if it wants to copy onto your phone and you can’t share it as it’s an AVI File or I haven’t worked out how to yet. I do like the WiFi sharing feature. If your out with a mate and they or you are shooting you can view it on your smart phone instead of just sitting there in the dark wondering what’s happening but can be a bit of a pain to set up. Probably are better items out there but for the money I think they are a marvellous bit of kit.

Had mine for a year now and find it great. It’s on my .222 and used exclusively for fox. Only just upgraded the ir which does give a clearer picture but has a loud switch and the foxes can see the beam where as on the supplied ir they didn’t seem to notice..... I’d recommend!

It is also possible to glue a small weaver rail on top of an IPS10 batt for an additional IR and then use the side rail for a CRS (custom rifle scopes) LRF.
