putting a battery in your tikka 595/590 stock

I had a request from Steve, (Steve curry ) on here to post the pictures of the battery installation in my stock to power the drone 10x

I removed the expanding foam, and the stock brace ( a small section of plastic that stops the stock from compressing inwards) this is used later.

I then removed the base plate from the pistol grip base on the stock ( 2 screws)

I then used a 8" long 5mm drill bit to drill down from the base of the pistol grip into the cavity that the foam is removed from to allow the cable to be passed through.

Then you drill down from the top of the rear section of the action to gain access to the same area in the base of the pistol grip ( same are you drilled to get to the cavity in the stock.

I then used a 6 volt battery with a charging circuit found on evil bay so that it can be charged from the cigar socket in the car when driving around.

When I first done this I found that the battery from Maplins was ok, but in the past few weeks ( 1 year later) the battery is all but NAFFED, so I will replace it,

you can run the cable drect to the plug for the drone or as I did I built in a socket so that I could also run any drone / pulsar etc from this point

when I did it the first time the battery was a tad long, so I very carefully removed some of the outer of the battery case so that it allowed the butpad to go back on,

I have used the outlet on the stock for many trial and demo's of many bits of NV gear and having the charging board fitted also allowed me to vari the voltage as the board is + or- 24 folts in and 1.2 volts to 24 volts out, once this was set for the drone I dropped a bit of candle wax on the adjustment pot so that is did not move,

I don't have a picture of the outlet on this pc but will post it when I get back in froom the radio/gun room,

I have found a photo of the plug outlet on the left side of the stock, this was the only tricky bit to get right, running the power cable from this point back to the base of the pistol grip was tricky and then covering the socket/outlet so that it does not get banged about, and as said its a simple plug that allows you to power up many different units for use/trial or experimentation purposes.

easy done ( says he) as he has done this to 5 stocks.

the other photo shows the cable route to the input of the drone, and finally the setting up and testing out on Highclere estate before a nights foxing,

no worries steve,

thats why i want to keep the stock, but if i could get another then i could let it go, i need to fit a newer battery as the one from Maplins is now no holding its charge for long.

its not hard to do you just have to do it carefully
