Quarry Species Question

Hi sikamalc. I was looking at another thread and noticed what you do for a living (very jealous) and wondered if you could give me some idea as to what species you have available and at what cost. I have only stalked Roe on some ground in Cumbria and am keen to attempt something different. Mr B's description of his time with you sounded fascinationg and totally different from what I have experienced so far. I do hope you dont mind me contacting you like this.

I dont mind at all you contacting me.

All species, but not all the ground is mine. I have access through good friends and various estates where I take people, and also three main areas which are mine, mostly Sika, Roe and some Red. But if you are a novice and require help then I will help you as much as I can.

Good people are free ;)

If you PM me we can talk. Or talk to Mr B and he will give you my mobile number.

Cheers ;)

you would have to be careful when choosing a weapon for beaver as you do not want the entry hole into the beaver to be very big!!
may i suggest aswell before eating the beaver, make sure it is thoroughly cleaned as they tend to give off a 'musky' smell when cracked open...
probably best if 'spit roasted'

hope this helps!!

I am very, very sorry I asked ........

Hi all

Well this topic has produced some mixed views.

I am also of the opionion that I have no wish to shoot any Big Cats
or other large carnivore, and have the same feeling about Bears as JAYB.

Well not unless they where trying to kill me, that is

Last year in Northern Finland on the border with Russia I had the opportunity to observe Wild European Brown Bears at very close quarters.
What fascinating animals thet are, and yes they do S**T in the woods.

I have no problem with people shooting trophy animals or Elephants as long as its sustainable.

As for Beaver :!: I had an invitation to hunt them in Finland from a young professional Finnish Gamekeeper that I guided for Sika Stag this Autumn.
They are best hunted in the spring and the younger ones are better, apparently they make good stew.

Personally I would like to make a hat from one, for those cold winter mornings sat in a highseat

Cheers

Fallow Stalker

just in case people got the wrong idea I would only shoot Brock once current status is changed so more chance of platting fog :!:

i know,i know......sorry people, i couldnt resist!!!!

Hi fallow stalker. Not sure I have seen one that was big enough to make a hat out of. Not sure i want to either.

Beaver hat Fallow Stalker, Hmmmm not sure about that. Now a Beaver sitting on your head that would be a bit uncomfortable but worth a try I suppose
I bet Fandango has one in his archive library of DVD'S

JayB wrote:- 'Yet I will shoot crows, foes ,rabbits etc until I run out of ammo without the slightest compunction.'
I'd better stay in your good books then John! :???:

As for Beaver, I prefer to use a large thick round with a purple ballistic tip.  8)

The lesser spotted ginger beaver is an aquired taste! IMHO:roll:

If I had a choice I would still choose a Finnish Beaver over an American one. Although I have to say I have seen some stunning beaver in the States frequenting certain areas where chrome poles are used to build their lodges

Piere knows all about the area. ;)

No matter what subspecies does it for you be careful with shot placement. Place your shot too far to the rear and things could get messy!
You'll probably find that they won't be in any hurry to go down either.
As for weapon size, the kinder beaver owner will say that it doesn't matter, it's what you do with it that counts, but a cool calm approach, keeping your nerve and of course practice will ensure success.
If you can't get out for some beaver a bit of dry firing should keep your hand in.

Hi Geoshot,
You seem to be very experienced in this field! Can I ask you your advice on where abouts to shoot the beaver? I have been hearing good things about 'A Texas heart shot'? :???:

Can you also recommend some good beaver hunting magazines? I really could do with some beaver recognition manuals to look at while the wife is out shopping.
