Question for the Bog tripod users.

A significant drawback with the Bog Deathgrip tripod is that you can't change/adapt the head.

I don't use one, mine is is a carbon tripod fitted with a ball head arca

But it looks to me like the arca rail is something that has to be permanently attached (ie, screwed) to the rifle.

Have I understood that correctly?

If so, then it's just not happening!

Actually you can convert them to ballhead mounts and run the original saddle clamp or convert to arca/swiss by removing the bolt underneath and fitting a ball head

I don't think that's an option.

It can be done buddy, many have converted theres to a ball head and ran the original saddle clamp or an alternative saddle clamp or just gone down the arca swiss route

Ball head from Ali Express, Arca Rail for rifle from Optics Warehouse, 3" long 3/8–16 UNC fixing bolt and washers for ball head to tripod from Spalding Fasteners, Made a couple of bushes to fit tripod internal bore to pass bolt through and take out any sideways play

Sounds to me like that swivel knob isn't functioning correctly, it should tighten up rock solid. I have my T3x with scope and IR torch mounted forward of my extended mag catch. It was dropping the mag otherwise. Over time the swivel will loosen up but if I get a really good gloved grip on it it will tighten up again. Holds the rifle solid well forward of the balance point

obviously not an option for you so I would say carry on as you are,.

Arca Rail fitted to Synthetic Stock and mounted in a Swiss Arca clamp, the .223 is rock solid unlike the plastic clamp offerings of the original.
Not too worried about cosmetics as this is a working rifle that sometimes sits there for quite some time before being required and which is far easier and convenient for me personally rather than standing around with the rifle on other types of stick and at the ready as I used to years gone by.
