Quick Load data help

Hi all,

I’m in the process of loading some 8x68s rounds and was wondering if someone could take a look on quick load for me please, just so I keep things safe.

I’d be grateful if someone could tell me the following:

1) what the starting and max powder weight should be.

2) what COL should be.

We’re using RWS brass, RS70 powder and 180 grain Barnes TSX bullets with CCI magnum primers.

The thing that’s getting me concerned is that the load data I have is for lead bullets where as these lead free bullets seem to be 3mm longer than 187 grain H-Mantel bullet heads.

Barrel length ? What is the longest that fits the magazine, and will that length chamber ?

I believe it’s a 25 but I may be wrong. I’m not sure in the Mag length but there must be around 90mm of room in the mag

When reloading, you work in fractions of a MM, or thousandths of an inch. If you want to be safe, MEASURE things, don't guess.

If you have a fired case, crush the neck enough to firmly grip a bullet. Extend the length and leave 8mm of the bullet within the neck. Mark with Sharpie or similar.

Measure AOL. chamber the round, and carefully close the bolt. Re-measure, repeat, to confirm.

That would be my starting point.

Close the bolt, and use a cleaning rod down the barrel, measuring bolt face to crown. ?

Thanks for that, I’ll give it a go. And I quite agree with not guessing which is why I’m seeking advice from more seasoned reloaders. Ok so if we assume a COL of 86.4, would you be able to tell me what the start and max loads are by any chance?

Ideally for accurate results you need to measure the water capacity of 5-10 cases so that the average (or minimum if playing it safe) water capacity can be input
