Quitting Smoking

best of luck on the smokes i stopped 3 years ago with allen carrs book never looked back ,keep it up ...my brother comes lamping with me and hes always smoking i think the foxes round here smell him and clear off ...good luck

16yrs since i stopped and what did it was a fishing holiday to ireland me and three mates hired the van picked it up loaded everything started coughing pulled my back out ended up in traction for six days, missed the piggin trip so that was it threw my bacca and lighters in the bin and never looked back, keep at it pal its worth it,im in the process off getting my lamping partner to do it , he keeps scaring the bunnies,:thumb:

I've not bought any baccy since Christmas now, and feel a lot better for it. Started taking the kids swimming every week too. Was knackered after the first time, and couldn't swim underwater at all. Now back to doing widths under water without a gasp.
I'm not saying I've quit for good, but certainly won't go back to how I was.

Tell yourself you don't need them it can help I gave up 6 years next sept we went to Cumbria for a week my Mrs said I was like a bear with a sore head but it's worth it keep up the good work bazil

Well done mate. Watch your Weight though, I piled it on when I stopped.
Good luck.

Yorkie.

A lot of folk find that that happens, but I've got steadily leaner since Christmas. In fact, just made another hole in my belt yesterday! Must be the swimming.
The biggest problem for me will be driving. I've always been able to go without smokes for a while if I run out or something, but not if I have to do a really long car journey. I don't know if I'll be able to manage that without roll-ups.

Hi VSS,
Am I correct in thinking you are a Hill Sheep Farmer? I am pretty sure that if so it would be near impossible for you to put weight weight on. I was brought up on a Pennine Hill Farm and it is Graft.

Yorkie.

I took it half hour at a time, I never told anyone I'd quit, just said "I haven't had one yet today but I might have one later", I even carried some around with me.
Every hour I didn't have one I thought I'd done well and would see if I could do another hour. Doing it that way takes all the pressure off
good luck

Well a big good luck to you all for stopping and those trying. It's a smelly health harming obsession that I once loved, I stopped in 1984 and feel a lot better for it. Keep at it get through the hard bit's and the longer you go without the easier it get's.

some folks are inspired by putting the money you'd spend on the smokes in a jar each day and watch it grow (fill) then use it for something you want as a reward...... What does a pack cost you folks? From 50 euro a carton here.....

I smoked rollies but tailor mades are about eight quit a pack

Which works out at over £2500/year  This time next year you could be the proud owner of a full custom rifle.
I stopped for a couple of years then did a show with Pierred, got drunk and was back on them :coat: Huge mistake, Ive now got to start all over again. You must want to give up and not be doing it for someone else.

I wish you all the best and really hope you are successful.

A few people have said to me that one of the best ways to quit is to save the cash up, in fact some people have said they have to in order to quit and are still saving the money up every year even years after quitting! Sounds like a good idea to me!

Its not easy mate but stick with it. I stoped 6 weaks ago.

Regards kev

Good for you Kevin..it's easy when you put your mind to it ! :thumb:

Hyperion, think of it this way whats the worst that could happen !

Well done, stick at it!
I know a few people who have saved their cigarette money when they quit, almost makes me wish I'd started so I could quit and save up a ton of cash.

keep at it. It has only been 4 months since I quit after 20 odd years of smoking. Switched to e-cig, first two weeks, used 18mg/ml fluid, then dropped to 8mg/ml fluid for a week, then forgot to put the e-cig in my pocket before stalking one day in Feb, haven't touched it since:-D

What's this Allan Carr book please chaps?

"The Easy Way to Stop Smoking."
A brilliant piece of myth-busting and positive thinking. The NHS and the gum/patches/e-cig conglomerates hate it because it lets you into a dirty little secret which for the sake of their sales and departmental budgets they do not want you to know, which is that quitting smoking for real rather than torturing yourself by just playing at it very now and again is actually far easier than you think. And the remarkable thing is it turns out to be true.
Buy it in Smiths. Must be about £10-15 now. Worth every penny.
