Quitting Smoking

Good luck, stay positive. Activity also helps, when you feel the urge get up, go for a walk, hammer some nails, kick a cat, do anything.

I had the Nasty habit for 14 years, and tried to stop many times. Finally was able to kick it with birth of my first born, decided I wanted to be alive to see my grandchildren, and great grandchildren. That was the motivation, but that did not help win the hourly, then daily, then weekly battles. After a month, once your body is weaned from the nicotine, you will find the fight much easier.

A few people have said to me that one of the best ways to quit is to save the cash up, in fact some people have said they have to in order to quit and are still saving the money up every year even years after quitting! Sounds like a good idea to me!

Not everyone practises what they preach tho:roll:

Lady : Do you smoke ?

Man : Yes

Lady : How many packs a day ?

Man : 3 packs

Lady : How much per pack

Man : $10.00

Lady : And how long have you been smoking ?

Man : 15 years

Lady : So 1 pack cost $10.00 and you have 3 packs a day which puts your spending each month at $900. In one year, it would be$10,800 correct ?

Man : Correct

Lady : If in 1 year you spend $10,800 not accounting for inflation, the past 15 years puts your spending at $162,000 correct ?

Man : Correct

Lady : Do you know that if you hadn't smoked, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 15 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari ?

Man : Do you smoke ?

Lady : No

Man : Where's your Ferrari then ?

havent bought any for 3 days now, thats nearly £15. By the end of the week i'll have enough to buy a box of 308w. Assuming i get lucky
thats 20 stags, maybe £2000. result

Good for you Kevin..it's easy when you put your mind to it ! :thumb:

Hyperion, think of it this way whats the worst that could happen !

that's enough to make you chuck it.

Buck.

Cheers billy:thumb:.It makes a difference Im not like a old steam train blowing out my arse going up the hills now :D

Regards kev

Day three! No one has died yet which is a good thing! I am eating a lot though!

Keep at it... The more you drink, the less you'll eat and water will help flush the junk out of your body... Get a couple bags of raw carrots or other veggies... It'll get easier

As of.....................................NOW!

I have a feeling today is going to be a long day!

Cheers

Pete

I quit 11 years ago, patches and inhalator, not sure if they use them now but they worked for me!

never looked back.

I have a few friends now that wander about with vapes....all you see on a dark night is a little blue light every couple of seconds! 😂

I had that other habit chewing tobacco, my dentist said stop or dentures before you turn 32 so I did. My parents smoked all my life when at home. After leaving home food was better, the world smelled better, no stink on my clothing lots of good there! My father quit after a massive heart attack, mom never did. Best of luck sir its not easy but well worth the effort.

I quit in 2011. Had tried patches, chewing gum, NHS help but all failed. Dropped my daughter off at university for her first day, thought how quickly time goes by and that I’d like to see what her future brings. Stopped at the services on way home and smoked my last fag, thinking I’ll get another pack when paying for petrol, I didn’t.
Strangely, I’ve always thought, since then, that if I get old and too knackered to keep doing what I do that I’d sit and smoke and drink whisky while watching the world go by. I’m still doing all the things I enjoy and I’m thinking it’s because I stopped smoking. I can, however, afford better whisky now 🥃 cheers!

I coined a line that i throw at 'family' when they want to argue re smoking and it is

"INTELLIGENT PEOPLE DON`T SMOKE"

They open their gobs to retaliate but quickly realise that it is true :stir:

My method a long time ago was to count the days and possibly the weeks that I hadn't smoked. My problem was that then I'd forget the number and therefore had no goal. So, I gave up completely on a significant date, my 30th birthday and haven't had one since. Geeze that is a long time ago.
Grant.
