Rabbits?

View attachment 83938

Not a brilliant picture I know, iPhone off back of my XQ38, but you get the idea. I would estimate 50 to 70+ rabbits in two large fields on one of my perms!
Landowner is well into his 80's and convinced there aren't too many about. They simply never show in the daytime, just feed all night. Its a job for the rimfire, when I get the scope changed out for one that works with my add on NV. I leave them be for now. As long as I keep the numbers down around the stables I'm deemed to be doing my job.

Looks like you also have bears in Somerset too, think your going to need more than a rimfire:)

With our kind of luck, it won't. Mexi. was released, 'Down Under', and the French brought it to Europe. (As was explained to me when I was in the required hunting course in Germany.) Too bad more don't want to take the time to shot them, rather than what is being done; they are good eating.

I was out on a permission of mine yesterday evening which has been totally devoid of rabbits all through the Autumn, Winter and this Spring. I was fairly relieved/pleased to see a couple of fairly mature healthy rabbits hopping about. Hopefully they will now make a bit of a come back (Especially if it is a good dry Summer) that will warrant "culling them" - I have all but forgotten how nice a good old rabbit stew tastes like!

I canny keep up with the rabbits. my baby ferrets are like a plague of locusts just now. I am going through 3 a day to keep up.
my diet consists of Deer and Rabbits. And in this sunny weather them BBQ rabbit is hard to beat, marinaded in Reggie Reggie sauce.

Hi

They seem to have made a comeback in some areas from 18mths ago. Thinned out 16 on Saturday morn, after the Shepherd said he had counted 40 week before.
Been keeping an eye on them since Feb/March as they have increased in numbers and grown in the paddock adjacent my Office window.
Farmer friend has also seen them increase with vengence -large rape field been partially razed, more alternative 'work' to do.

We were devoid for good few years but took 72 over three nights , 2 walking about just set of sticks , then a hand from a good gent with thermal scope and truck spotter , got 41 of them with him
Still pile bouncing around ....lot of little uns

They do seem to be reappearing after a thin Spring. I've started seeing some numbers again - hardly rampaging herds, but a few clustered in the usual spots.

The rabbit breeding season has peaked now and the population will be at its highest, lets hope disease doesn't make the inroads has has in previous years. The next couple of months will be critical.
Round here ther's certainly more than there were last year but myxi is around so we shall heve to wait and see.
