Re-barrel ‘Smith

There’s a company called jager sporting I got recommend seen really fair prices on there website
Ive had two tikka's rebarrled by James at jägersport, the first one is just reaching the 150 round mark so ive not developed a load for it yet. with Norma match I shot a 9 shot group about 13mm at 100m, the 10th I defiantly pulled. The second I've not collected.
He sourced a heym barrel for me, fitted it, and ceracote'd it at just over a third of the cost the importer quoted. took him three weeks.
For a stalking rifle don't overlook the Serbian barrels he's importing.

i had a barrel done by BE precision..
Really pleased and very accurate .

My dads now having one done and I’m confident my father in law is right behind him for one himself soon

I will be returning !

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I have only spoken with one company so far.

The rifle is an FN SPR. Its original barrel is shot out. They were chrome lined and clearly, the chrome is stripped as can be seen with a bore cam.

I do want the original profile keeping as much as possible. Which is 1.13 at the breech, tapered to 0.924 and fluted. .308, 1 in 10”.

I did expect the thick end of a grand, but there’s other rifles out there that I could put in the cabinet for the cost of a rebarrel. There’s no sentimentality attached to the gun. And that’s really what I’m weighing up. A new rifle, or give this a new lease of life…? The “extra” £500, although appearing reasonable given the consensus, might still not sit with me that well, being put into an old rifle.

Is rifle still accurate despite chrome going ?
Is it worth hassle / factored in cost of rfd / licence / varation ? Or even the time scale for one
Some areas that's not an issue others it's months ?
Paul

No, accuracy is simply done. This was a half MOA rifle, four to five MOA now.

That’s also a valid point. 3 to four months to obtain the barrel and 8 weeks to do the work once it’s here… with 50% deposit.

Now that you’ve added fluting and s bespoke profile £1500 doesn’t seem miles away. jack at JR Firearms would definately be worth talking to. He has the inhouse capability for both of those items. He’s also good at it and wont mess you around

Thank you.

Please do a search on here....I'll say no more.
I'd happily recommend him. I've had several rifles looked at by James and varying levels of work done, all have been faultless. He has a few bad reviews, but isn't it right that it's the moaners who shout the loudest? One guy has been going on about it for years, probably over a decade. Broken record springs to mind! I've had semi custom guns from Neil McKillop, Callum Ferguson, other really well known names too. I'd challenge anyone to look at any of them vs Jager's and show me a reason not to pick him as a contender.

I have had good work from James also, ... Don't knock it without trying it ... on the same subject I have also had "Work " done by a bi polar freak.

He is a consummate machinist, but a business man?, I think not.
Since my last interaction with him, I always advise if He were the last Gunsmith on earth, & To be fair, He is a good one, I would buy a bow & arrow.;)
