RE land rover defender demise

I my humble opinion is i think its been a long time coming,

just some points (and all bad) i have found without trying.followed by 1 good point.

1, the whole vehicle body and main frame is made of dissimilar metals that cause each other to react with each other.........nothing new there for the many that know what im on about.............corrosion

2,the lack of leg room unless your 4 ft tall and built like a high diver...............its even worse for those behind you in a lwb.

3, as above with respect to elbow room..................you have to open the windows to get a comfortable arm position, with just 1 arm getting some where near comfortable.

4, who puts the window controls on the dashboard....................

5, the gearbox is about as bad as it gets....................unless you still have a 1970 fsu parked in the drive.

6, turning space needed is just less than the space shuttle needs when on the move under its own power (nil)

7, door and window seals that leak and fall off more often than 10 leaky things.

8, a ride that would make 2 weeks on a camel feel like a luxury coach ride,

9, window wipers and washers that i am sure came out of a 1960's vw beetle.

10, seats that are made from things left over from items found in the blue peter cupboard.

for now this is all i care to mention as its hard to type when the tears are coming down ones face,

oh,

the one good point about owning one is,

the spares are so cheap..............................and you're keeping someone in a job,

bob.

tin hat on time.

Just remembered!! I passed my driving test in a diesel 90.

Ok, time to put that memory way back in its box!

Suprised they stayed around so long, only 60 years out of date & lets face it on the defender....utter garbage after 6 years, with turning circle of an oil tanker, no storage space, water leaks of a water fall & rot of a Chinese tin spanner , & even sooner the later models of self destruction ahhahaha, Need a turbo no one will touch it. Body off job on a discovery !! £4-5K
They make look the part but..........." if you want to go across the jungle go in a landrover, if you want to get home , use a Jeep ! " ;)

The Landrovers that we had in work would go places that we would never ever dream of taking the L200s, but that was only because all the guys had utter contempt for the Landrovers and it showed by the number that they wrecked over the years. For serious off road work you can’t beat the Unimog though but it really isn’t suited as a good off road car for most shooters/stalkers as it’s a serious tool.
:stir:

The nicest of the Landrovers that we used, and we had all sorts including 6 wheelers, was the V8 petrol. Thankfully we didn't have to pay for our fuel as that was a thirsty beast.

drove an NRA (rivers not rifles!) 6 wheeler
got caught on helicopter TV camera taking it "wading" in a flooded road in Cambridgeshire. very funny!

V8 petrol short wheelbase is most fun
