Real life Yildiz shotgun review

Following on from my thread 28 bore or 410, one on a budget cannot help but notice reasonably priced yildiz shotguns out there.

I am very tempted to have a serious look at them.

Has anyone on here got any real life experience of owning/using one?

What's the reliability like with the alloy etc?

My son started off with the junior 28 gauge ejector and then moved on to the same in a 20 gauge. He got on really well with both as their off the shelf fit was spot on for him.
Reliability wise we never had a problem, he put quite a few hundred through the 28 and progressed nicely from dusting clays to downing some very reasonable pheasants.
For the money I thought the quality was excellent and the wood was well above what I would have expected. Overall I thought the general finish was good but the laser etched ‘engraving’ was a bit light to be convincing.
They are nicely put together guns.

When I traded in the 28 for the 20 I had a look at a Kofs in the same shop, by comparison it felt very poor mechanically and the stock felt very plasticky, ok it was cheaper than the Yildiz but not by that much.

I wish now that I had held onto the 28 in case I need it in the future for grandchildren.

For the price of the yildiz I don't think you could ask for more!

I have Yildiz in 28 bore. I love it. It has a very nice grain on the stock and comes up like a dream. When buying a shotgun of that price (very cheap) I am warey of too many moving parts so I went for the non ejector as there is less to go wrong.

I know it’s not what you’re asking about but, have a look at ATA also. They’re another Turkish gun maker. A friend of mine has a 12 with 32” barrels and it shoots great. It’s a right hander but must be pretty straight as I’m a lefty and I shot it on high driven clays and was smoking them. Not something I normally do. He took it goose shooting the other year as a second gun and when his Hatsan had enough of the RC50s we were using, ( I told him it would spit it’s dummy out) he dropped onto the ATA and it performed faultlessly. Quite a ask for a sub grand shotgun I thought.

ATA O/Us are built around the well proven Beretta design of action.

I agree with the previous views -Yildiz are excellent guns for the price. My son moved up to a Yildiz 28 from a .410 S/S from the same maker. The 28 was the gun which took him through to a 12. He shot it well on clays and game.

It's for sale in the classifieds.

I have the Yildiz Wildfowler Extreme 12 O/U.

Good price, nice wood, good fit (I'm 5'9).

The only thing that I notice every time is the safety is a bit scratchy/grindy, nithing that couldnt be sorted I would Imagine.

My wife has the 20g. While I get on with it, it's not fitted for me so is a little short on length, as long as it fits you well. I think it's a great gun for the money.

I own a Yilditz 20 bore it was a special order 30inch barrels and straight hand stock, I've had it about 7-8 years and the only time it missed a beat was on a simulated game day when I put a slab and a half of cartridge through it, I quick shot of WD and back at it.

I got my son a 20g a couple of years ago, a boys gun with a short stock and 26" barrels, it's a non ejector but has a single selective trigger and multichokes, for the the money the finish is very good, equally as good as my Miroku, I'd use one.

Another vote for the Yildiz .410. Had one since they came on the UK market. Light, handy and kills clays and game with equal facility.

My son has had one since 13, the full size adult version rather than kids, it’s be faultless, but the trigger isnt great but what you should expect for that money …

Beg, borrow another £500 and buy a used Silver Pigeon
