recommend non waterproof trousers

Craighooper Kiwi trousers for me hard wearing light quick drying and as they aren't stalking related but mountaineering trousers sensibly priced.

Yep, the thing to do is cast your net wider than those that sell trousers for just field sports. Have a wander into a shop like Go Outdoors or other walking type establishments. Or army surplus. You will probably spend around about £100 on some Fjallraven or Rovince trousers and the other big names such as Harkila do them as well, all around the same price, give or take a tenner but non-shooting type pants are generally cheaper. I've got some Craghoppers too and they are very light, ideal for those 2 days we get when it's hot.

If you can still get the deerhunter Montana boot fit they have proved great for me. Especially the zip on the ankle. I originally bought one pair and have managed to get another 2 pairs I am real chuffed with them and only 19 quid on flea bay

British army warm weather MTP trousers are cheap, hard wearing and impregnated with something to keep the mossies and ticks away

Fjallraven Vida Pro for me. Like most on here I guess, I've used all sorts over the years, mainly army surplus stuff, craghoppers etc, but none of them offer the toughness or practicality of the Vida Pros. They dry very quickly if they do get wet, and waxing them keeps the worst of it off. You don't need "special" anti-tick impregnated clothing when you have a tough, fine poly-cotton weave and hooks that ensure the trouser bottoms stay rooted to the boots (a great feature) the pockets are plentiful and well thought out, and well, they're as tough as old boots and will probably see me out! Expensive they may be, but they're worth every penny.

Try the jack pyke countryman trousers, exactly what you are describing. Have been wearing them for several years, really hard-wearing.

Fjallraven Barents Pro

I've a pair of the Barents Pro Hydratic trousers for winter wear - it doesn't tend to get too cold all that often down here so the wind and waterproof lining suffices - and find them really comfortable. I prefer the adjustable straps with press studs and hooks on the legs of the Vidda Pros though.

Crag hoppers for me and a dose of diver Dave's repel on mine and they're great .... if bit colder I wear Aldi merino bags layer leggings .....
Next time I'm going to go for the milsurp Olive jobs as cheaper nearly

Swazi 4WD - worth the money (but they are a waterproof breathable fleece type material)
Pinewood trousers are good for the money, a step up from Mil surplus. Use them all the time, apart from stalking when use 4WD
