Several questions back at you!
How old, where do you live (Ah, Sunderland!), what does it eat, what will it do, where does it live, any other pets? Your vet will be asking all of this.
Our advice is changing and most vets now avoid regular treatments and have gone to treat if you need to. That's easy for fleas, but harder for worms.

So, young pup - will need panacur every 2 week until 12 weeks, then every month to six months. After that, unless it's raw fed or scavenges, it probably won't need worming.
It may need lungworm treatment - if lungworm is an issue in your area - ask your vet

Fleas - treat if you see them, or see flea droppings. If you have a cat, fleas are more likely - any of the tablets like Bravecto

Ticks - just pick them off, but if getting loads then Bravecto at peak season

The above balances animal health with environmental damage.

Interesting to read about moving away from regular treatment. Historically I have wormed 3 monthly and flea and tic over the summer. Vet now "strongly recommending" combined flea/tic/worming tablet due to the possible lung worm issues.
(All made easily Affordable with their monthly payment healthcare plan :) )

I too promoted health plans based on regular parasite control, which was odd as at the same time I was advocating all my farming clients to treat on the basis of testing. While not in practice now, if I was, I'd not be doing this any longer. Lungworm remains the conumdrum

Do my dogs with the seasons ticks a pull of keep them clipped short
Ear mite use dickie lotion

Good advice in post #2 to think on.
This…
The riparian owner of our small syndicate on a Hampshire chalk stream has now banned all dogs entering the river on the estate. Some of the “spot on” tick/ flea treatments can have a catastrophic effect on invertebrate river life.
