Recording your culls.

got the recording features on the thermal, and scopes, but never once used them, never recorded, never took a picture of what I shot, never kept a record of what I shot, distances and clicks on some ground yes, nothing else, except If I see something alive when I am close I may take a picture .
Missing out on so many memories.

Or maybe the memories are sufficient on their own, without everything having to be logged and recorded?
Sadly, one aspect of ageing that ****es me off more than most about growing old is my failing memory.

We used to run MS Media Centre across our home network and the default screensavers on our various PC and TV were drawn at random from our digital photo albums. Seeing those pictures flash up rekindled the full memories and in my view, kept them alive in our minds. Indeed, our kids know so much about our family history from those photographs that it has filled in many gaps in their early history. Media Centre is no more but SWIMBO has just managed to hook our NAS up to the Sony TV in the family Rm/Dining Rm so that over family dinners these once again a limited show - it still provokes much discussion, which often spin off into deep family discussions over food which to me, is great in my view. Perhaps one of the only aspects I'll miss if they ever do leave home.

Each to their own, I guess.
I wouldn't like that at all.
But then, I haven't ever had a TV, and all computers in our house are turned off except when actually in use. The thought of having active screens dotted about the house - particularly in family areas such as the living room or dining room - fills me with horror!

It's not as bad as you envisage, but we all have networked PC and for the 2 TVs, one in the lounge (seldom used) and the other in the Family Rm - frequently used. I like to watch the news mostly live (the abysmal standard of journalism today is worthy of a separate thread IMHO) but mostly that one serves as a conduit to catch-up TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc and when that's not actively playing (when switched on) it displays our photos.

Never had a TV ...knew you were wacko

Used to keep records for our local DMG as did all members and at the years end we met and discussed all the submissions. They then started getting drone surveys done we got an app to record everything on the land stalked and full details. Since that, we know deer numbers there are about but don't discuss what's been culled by whom. That's me finished filling in anything for the group.
I now as always keep records for the estate and can't see any point in exaggeration.

No, I just like to live my own life, not be a carbon copy of every sad person who's sitting and watching exactly the same thing at exactly the same time as millions of other people.
He who writes the TV Times controls the population. Except me.
Everyone lives their own life , I certainly do what I want and always have but still own a TV just like most normal people.

Nobody controls me Im a lone wolf.

So have you deprived your children of watching kids TV growing up...poor kid.

Oh such a loss to the poor little mites!
Must explain why all my children are such underachievers!
🤣🤣🤣

Seriously though, I grew up without TV, and have never felt any need for one, so my children all grew up without it. I can't even imagine what it would be like. Whenever I'm in someone else's house and there's a TV on it annoys me immensely.

You are a grumpy old sod.

Just because people want to do something different to you doesn’t mean it’s inherently useless.

Some people are interested in the data in and of itself. Some are interested in it because it informs planning and management, some because they have requirements to provide the data to landowners or other agencies.

Get over yourself. Your consistent negativity gets really tedious.
A very well written post! 😉

I keep a few sets of records and it does prove insightful.
To retain our forestry certification (FISA) i record digitally where the animal was shot, species, sex and if it was under night licence.
Then theres a corresponding set of larder records and finally the collection sheet from the stealer.
These obviously all have to tally at the end of each month and go in our records. We get an audit at least once every 12 months and they've looked over our deer records every time.

We haven’t had a TV for 25 years.

It’s amazing how much you can get done when you don’t have the gogglebox sitting in the corner of a room demanding attention, and quite why anyone would volunteer to subsidise the BBC these days is a mystery.

If we want to watch a film or TV series we just stream it.

Funny that actually, I do watch stuff on the phone sometimes, but I haven’t sat and looked at an actual TV for over 12 years! Never even thought of it till now

Once you’ve gone through the “cold turkey” phase of not automatically switching it on and staring at it all evening, it’s remarkably easy to wean yourself off TV.

The Northern Chimps like their TV Tim... I am sure I read that a sd member had a cameo role in an episode🙈
Rumour has it there is a good trade in recorded VHS tapes of..

I wonder how many kids are born today, because there was nothing good on telly that evening. Maybe that'd solve the population decline 🤣

Me, both mine are end of November births.... Bang on 9 months from Valentine's day.
