Red dot or green ?

I was thinking about getting a red dot sight for my Bergara 30-06 single shot take down rifle. Basically to stick in the UTV bag, jump out and grab for a quick shot. Never used one ,are they any good ? What's best green or red ? What brand ? Are they easy to zero ?Local shop has some they recommend a Aimpoint MICRO H-2 MOA weaver mount approx 500 pounds ,any thoughts please.

I use them on C02 guns and air rifles, brilliant things, have held it at arms length and still taken stuff down. Mine have both green and red switchable and dimmable. Saw a bloke at a clay ground using one last year.

Couple of thoughts. Whilst the idea is good I have never been that impressed with the optical quality of a red dot sight. I thank a 1 power scope is much better. Yes eye position is a bit more critical but a decently fitted rifle sorts that. If you can find a little 1” tubed Leupold or Burris 1-4x20 that would be perfect on a B13. And 4x you can still shoot a deer out as far as you can shoot deer.

But does the rifle have open sights. With a bit of practice open sights allow quick and accurate shots, and £500 buys a lot of practice ammo.

Thanks Matt for your reply.

Hi Heym , the rifle does have open sights but with my ageing eye sight I would struggle. The sort of shooting would be extremely fast ,I have from time to time wild dogs coming through attacking my cattle,I don't like baiting just humane dispatch to me is the way to go. I might check out your idea of the 1-4 x 20 .Thanks for your thoughts.

I have used several e o tec, aim points and bushnell, usually fitted to lever actions, but my mate has one on a bergarra single shot.
I used them while shooting deer in areas of gorse and ferns in the uk, very fast for those under 100 yrd shots, remember both eyes open, only used red.
All models held zero, possible best value was the bushnell TRs25, and still the biggest seller.
E o tec 512 great on a semi for squirrel 😂
I have a aim point at present on my marlin 336 bl 30-30 at the moment for bush hunting. Only ever had red coloured scopes.

Red much better, too much green background when ur hunting so you can loose the dot

Thanks for the reply very useful, sounds like red is okay will check out the Bushnell.

Got an aimpoint Micro H2 on my 308 for close driven pigs and rate it highly. Prefer a 1-4 or 1-6 scope for longer shots though and on 1x power its very similar to aimpoint

That's interesting some internet reviews say green, sounds like red is the way to go. Green would disappear on a green background

Regarding the color... Green dots were developed for people who struggle to see red color, but lately, green dots completely overran red dots in terms of popularity.

The best thing to do would be to test them out yourself because it really mostly just comes down to personal preference. If that is not an option, and if you never experienced any color-vision deficiency, then we think we can safely say that you can pick whichever you think you would prefer.

In regards to the brand, Aimpoint and Holosun are currently the most popular.
