Red / fallow antler - scouts

Hi all

I’m trying to help out our local scout leader - he wants to make sure woggles (the things that hold their scarves on) for the cubs and scouts groups. I’m keen to help as it goes to encourage the kids to think about nature/deer and hopefully in turn that that deer stalking and the use of the whole beast is part of life.

It appears that for this red seems to be best as a 20mm hole needs to be drilled through a bit of (of 20 or so millimetre length) of antler. Red I think would therefore produce more per antler - but not exactly a deer local to Kent! 😁

Fallow may work but it probably need to be fairly mature to be thick enough to take a 20mm hole, and may require a few of sets at least to make 45-50 woggles to cover every kid in the cubs and scouts. I only have one worthwhile set to donate sadly - which although is a start is not enough.

Anyway cut a long story short I’m asking whether anyone has enough of either such antler for disposal that they might consider donating for a worthwhile cause.

Ideally local enough to collect, or I’d personally cover postage.

Please PM if you are able to help.

Thanks in advance for reading

I have some knocking around. I'll keep my most memorable ones, but sure there are some in tje shed which hold little significance. If they could be cut up into the size required postage would be quite minimal and I would be happy to cover that in aid of your cause.
I'll take a look tomorrow. Could you confirm cut sizes please.

Happy to keep a few back from this seasons cull if the right opportunities present.

@woodmaster and @deerstalker.308 thats both very kind of you both, and a great example of why I thought I’d ask the group

@woodmaster - as you have some I’d like to take you up in the kind offer that way I can get them to them soon ready for a rainy evening in the hall, they’re looking for lengths for woggles ideally just a touch over 20mm (say between 20mm and 25mm) and they will drill a hole 20mm through for the scarf, so as @Donkey Basher questioned, sections about 30mm would probably suit I would think. No need to cut down individually (unless that helps postage greatly). I’ll PM my details.

Thanks

A last stab for red antler - having spoken with the scout leader fallow doesn’t have the girth and decent amount of round sections to make enough or big enough woggles, and sadly red are not local here to lay my hands on any.

Therefore I’m still scrounging around looking for off cuts of red antler - about 30mm thick and 20x 25mm lengths just to do the scout group.

Please PM if you might be able to help in the short term. Happy to cover costs to help the group.

Thanks tf223
