The outdoor clothing market is a tough and unforgiving one.
I've not met anyone using this gear, however the website shows recent activity Recoil TV featuring RedKettle gearHas anyone had any of the Red Kettle jackets? If so are they any good and do they keep you dry?
Perhaps I should have added "many get scalded"?Oh such a succinct reply that did sfa for the OP
There is no need Klenchy, you have done the job already and after your original answer I went looking and as soon as I saw the jacket price and converted it to AUD I nearly shcatt myself and decided there and then that the RK logo wouldnt be seen around these hills. If they wish to send me one to permit an honest & fair review based on in-the-field use I will happily oblige.
I wish RK every success but they've got their work cut out with such a niche product that can be a;- very noisy in damp & cold weather and b;- equally unsupple when exposed to heavy rain.
Good to see an alternative take on the product in question based on personal experience of the garment. Something I'm happy to acknowledge I do not have, hence my offer to field test the Red Kettle jacket. With regard to my assertion of fabric stiffening when wet it may be helpful to note there are many grades/weights of Ventile that, coupled with the use of twin layers in many outdoor smocks such as those made by Hilltrek, would magnify the key feature of Ventile that is expanded fibers that in turn close the weave when exposed to rain.Utter crap ventile does not become stiff, it absorbs some water for the fibres to swell in order to become waterproof, but it is a very lightweight material, durable and totally silent (it is after all simply cotton, here is an experiment wear a cotton shirt in the rain and see how loud it becomes), I used ventile products when I was a keeper full time and it never let me down. There are also quite a few companies still using ventile, I always laugh at the plonkers who swear by modern breathable materials in my opinion when you are doing serious climbing/hiking you may as well wear a bin bag for all of the breathability hype that surrounds the like of gore tex.

Not stiff? Not noisy? Not heavy?Ventile, never had a problem with it, and I have used to for nearly 40 years, I have tried modern stuff like gore-tex which has never lasted long, always gone back to the ventile.
I have 3 jackets (two barbour & 1 Fisher) plus a lightweight single layer smock that came from Silvermans (new)
They remade quiet and flexible no matter how wet, the only one that will let the damp in is the smock, uncomfortable if you only have a T shirt under it, but un-noticable if you have a light fleece under it.
