Reds on the hill

Il try my first attempt at a write up.

Feb this year we went on our goosing trip north of the border and decided to tie in a stalk the end of the week. The foreshore geese didn’t play ball for me unfortunately so I was really looking forward to the prospect of getting onto a red on the hill.
We were met by the head stalker and his apprentice, we loaded up in the yard (Argo on the trailer) and headed into the hill, absolutely middle of nowhere. 30 mins in the truck then another 30 mins in the Argo, a couple of shots on the range to satisfy the stalker I and the rifle were capable, we then set off on foot. I’ve no idea how high we climbed but my legs were certainly aching, no deer in site up to now (about 2 hours) only a solitary golden eagle to watch through the binos. Eventually we made out the outline of a single hind right on the skyline so we hatched a plan and headed up. The trek up took another 30-45 mins until we were eventually in a position to stalk. On closer inspection there were approx 7 hinds and a young stag in the group. I managed to get into position and take one facing me quartering and immediately Took another facing away with a perfect neck shot. Both fell instantly to the shots. I was absolutely over the moon.
Hand shakes all round, a quick bite to eat, and the long drag down, followed by an even longer (10 hours) drive home!!
Another great experience on the hill, the absolute pinnacle in deer stalking imo. 1AD64575-FE30-448E-98F1-FE2DC3E8270F.webp

Good little write up, and some nice pictures to add. Next time go for two days to make moree efficient and environmentally sound use of all that fuel. We really do have to do our bit there and it's a good excuse for more stalking.:thumb:
