Removeable Turret Press - Drill or Clamp or Freeze

Bewsher, you are giving me ideas above my station. Just watched that link you posted about the Forster Co-Axial...very nice machine. The action and base appear to make it fairly stable, hence the guy using just a single clamp.

A very nice shiny toy indeed. My head has been turned.

I have my girlfriends Dillon bolted to a piece of 1" plywood that is move and clamped as needed.
I have been trying to figure out how to utilize Lee's quick lock device for a press but it leaves the locking brackets proud on the bench and that seems to defeat the purpose for me.~Muir
I thought the same thing, it doesn't really give you full use of the bench. There has got to be a better design than that.

Use bench dogs to clamp the plywood to your bench top.
This is how woodworking benches operate. I will give a short explanation, but go look at some heavy woodworking benches. They have rectangular holes spaced across the surface. These are for pushing in pins, call "dogs", and clamp wood from the side. These are the passive resistance against a clamp.

In modern times, there were added dogs which pushed down in these holes with a screw clamp or cam clamp.

You can do this on your bench by drilling a hole for a pipe to pass through. Underneath, screw a thread floor flange. Then use a short pipe nipple with a pipe vise screw clamp on it, to clamp down on the plywood base of your reloading press. When you are through, you unscrew the pipe from the hiddle flange, and your workbench is smooth, except for that hole.

I have the lyman T magII. Turret press and I think it's very solid built, no excess play or movement in the turret , and I'm getting groups that keyhole with both my .25cal and my .22-250 .
I never entered a competition or shot much longer range but entered an informal comp out to 400 yards for charity and came 4th out of 41 folks !
So I think personally unless you are bench rest or serious target competition then very feasible to get very accurate ammo for hunting from a decent turret press .
My experience anyway .

i bolted mine to a piece of board i had lying about and just clamp it to my desk whenever i need it, and ive had no issues so far, but i found that you had to be carefull when mounting it to ensure that the lever arm of the press was not obstructed in any way.
