Removing cerakote from a bolt

I’ve a rifle bolt that sometime in the past has been cerakoted, but is now worn and scraped. I’d like to take it back to its original stainless finish, how is it best to go about this. I have wire wool and possibly access to a polishing mop. Thanks

No one cerakoting, but we have an engineering company that undertake work for the oil industry, there’s a chance they may do vapour blasting. Thanks for the pointer. If not,are you able to send a disassembled bolt through the post?

good morning ,you could try running it in your case tumbler for a couple of hour, may be worth a try.

Dis assembled in separate packages Legal BUT?,A bit risky due to those employed in the farce parcel world.

A mate of mine was a dental technician ie; he made false teeth and crown.
His setup for soda blasting is a gravity fed airbrush back to a small compressor.
Not sure if it will remove ceracote but it probably will. It would certainly give you an even finish after using wire wood and or scotchbrite.

Not cerocoted, but my Remington 700 bolt was covered in a matt parkerised type finish. Horrible and gritty to use. Took the bolt apart. Then a couple of hours with some emery cloth starting with 320 grit and finished with 600 and it was all polished steel. Used plenty of 3 in 1 oil as lubricant and cross polished as well as polished lengh wise. Around the lugs used a small file with emery wrapped around.

It was much less work than i thought it would be.
