Removing Dried Tape Glue

Some very gentle rubbing with brake cleaner soaked 4x2 cloth teased the very hard glue off the scope. The speed with which the brake cleaner evaporated was helpful too. The tape had been used on all surfaces of the scope tube/body. Possibly a very slight lightening of the scope finish post removal of the dried glue, but very hard to tell if it actually has. 100% better for the job and lesson learnt about using tape!

Thank you for all of the suggestions and tips. It’s great to be able to take advantage of people’s experience on this forum.

Can anybody recommend a gentle way / product for removing very old and dried adhesive tape glue from the body of a telescopic sight?
If you know a nurse or doctor, a thing called “remove” or “appeal” are an adhesive remover for use on patients. It’s great and works on everything. If you’re stuck I’ll put some in the post

What did you use in the end? There was no shortage of suggestions!
I ordered some “sticky stuff remover” but before it had arrived tried some brake cleaner on soft 4x2 rag. Gentle rubbing saw the dried glue slowly removed. It worked well, but possibly with a very slight change in the depth of the hardened tube finish.
