i ordered one of these last week and it arrived on monday, and i have to say my first impressions were 'pile of shite'.... i brought this to wear picking up for the coming season as i'm fed up of my deerhunter, keeps me bone dry but weighs about ten stone when wet, which on top of sixteen and a half aint good!! anyway back to the ridgeline does anyone have one and if so what do you think of them?? i was going to send mine back today and order the rivers west field pro smock but thought i would hold off to see what others thought of it?
regards, Jez.

I cant comment on the roar jacket in particular, but i have the ridgeline monsoon jacket and am really pleased with it. I fairly put it through its paces in NZ and its since seen a bit of action here. Give it a try before you rule it out.

hi jez,
Don't know about the roar in particular but i bought the monsoon 2 at the CLA and first impression very impressed. It held up in todays downpour while i was out surveying but the liner seem extremely hardwearing but bitterly cold.I eyed up the fieldpro smock also so maybe an excue at the midland for yet another coat.;)
Time will tell.

i wanted the monsoon but couldn't find it anywhere in olive, don't like the teak and don't think the camo would go down to well with all the hoorays.... would like to try it but won't be able to send it back if its used!! and i don't want to be paying for two coats, need to save some pennies for when a syndicate place comes up!

regards, Jez.

Have the Torrent and Monsoon and both absolutely spot on in keeping the wet stuff oot.Only downside of the Monsoon is it doesnt breathe very well on the hot days but thats a minor.

i bought the ridgeline roar last year half way thru the season

i dont know why you think its **** ? i got mine form opticswarehouse bargain basement and it was 110 quid i think

now for 110 quid considerin g top end stuff is 300 - 400 quid then i dont think its fair to compare

i got mine and then went up into angus glens flanking at the grouse on a day where the rain was horizontal and the wind was that bad most people were struggling to keep their feet....and i tell you that jacket did it for me!!!! yes i had a thin fleece as a mid layer but by f*ck i was impressed!!! now i noly got it thinking cheap jacket for beating may just last the season....i have hardly worn it coz so busy with work etc but for 110 quid i cant complain and would buy more ridgline gear on the jackets alone

i have nothing to do with ridgline or opticswarehouse but they seem to have a selection of ridgleine kit also for those needing cheaper than other places reloading gear etc this website seems to be the cheapest for gear in general at the moment.

anyone know where you can get the ridgline monsoon smock supplied in the uk?

Well it seems then that I'm spoilt for choice as I use both the Rivers West Ranger, in Realtree and Ridgeline Monsoon in Teak ( is that the brown/tan colour ). I would highly rate both jackets and have been out in both in real fowl weather. So that's a hard choice between these 2 jackets.

i've got a roar jacket, good product and 100% waterproof/windproof. not breathable in any way and if you have to drag a carcass you will know it. excellent for highseat work in the doe season when you're not far away from the truck. the hood is like a neck brace when tucked into the collar. if thats your budget you could buy a lot worse.

i want a coat to wear picking up, i tried the roar on when i got it, the things i did'nt like were not being able to zip it right up, and when i put a fleece on underneath couldn't even zip it up as far as it would go, hood not detatchable and as stated above is like a neck brace when rolled up making it even more uncomfortable... only had it on for ten mins and while i was in the house it wasn't thw warmest of days and i had a bit of a cob on so god knows what i would be like after a day on the cotswold hills... and the last thing although stupid was that the hood peaked out quite far at the back which looks ridiculous when the hood is up, very little red(green) riding hood esque.. and i payed optics warehouse £72 for mine but i would rather pay three times that for something more comfortable and wouldn't have me sweating my tits off...

I know i'm dragging up an old thread here, but it came up when I was researching Ridgeline clothing so thought i'd add my tuppence worth. I've just taken delivery of a Ridgeline Roar II Jacket and Trouser combo from Scott Country. Although the jacket is too big and will be getting exchanged, first impressions are good. I've not tested it in the field so can't comment on that, but it feels and looks good so a better first impression than you had Jez.

I wonder if you got the Roar I jacket? I read quite a few bad comments about that and apparently they've addressed them for the Roar II Jacket which is new for 2011 (so they say).

Cheers

Hi There

I have one and, as a general jacket, I found that it's fine but I only went stalking in it once - not the quietest of jackets and, being long, I found it difficult to crouch without it catching over my knees. I think if I were doing a lot of highseat work then it would be fine but I really did find that its lack of flexibility and general noise a little too much for those quiet woodland moments.

Hope that helps inform your decision on purchase

I've had a Roar jacket now for just over a year and I can't fault it. I've worn it in very heavy rain and it has always kept me dry. As it has been said before it is not the most breathable and your choice of mid/base layer is important.

A great jacket for the money in my experience, I also have the trousers and they are my standard choice when out in bad weather.

New Information!!!

Ridgeline Roar jacket is coming up on it's second birthday, and now leaks like a sieve! Seriously disappointed in this kit, both jacket and trousers leak and are no longer waterproof. I've looked after them, followed all the correct care instructions etc. Customer service has been very poor, the shop I bought them from have stopped dealing with Ridgeline as they had customer service issues. I'm still waiting for a response on my jacket and trousers.

This may be a one off, but I'll not be buying any Ridgeline kit again.

Just thought I'd let you all know.
