Ridiculous rates for ammunition will end recreational shooting

Neither lead nor copper are magnetic ,just saying
??

Have you ever used a metal detector?

Aluminium foil milk bottle tops make a horrendous noise on my detector. The most regular use I have for my detectors is picking up non magnetic brass 22LR cases from the grass.

Lead is close to gold in detecting respect. Gold, silver, copper alloys like coinage bronze, lead, all can be discriminated for (from ferrous) and detected on even a basic detector and are non magnetic, just saying.

Might of misread the post Al .Just pointing out neither are magnetic .Feck all to do with thread but then again it seems 75% of all posts go that way 👍🏻

Yes if Admin stopped threads that went ”Off topic” it would reduce traffic by about 90%, a bit of off topic rambling is fine

I misread yours , or you misread Leupsak's?

I thought I understood what you were saying until you posted the "roll eyes" icon...

Nor did I 🙄

My ?? and response were because you pointed out that lead and copper were non magnetic in direct response to @Leupsak 's post about using metal detectors.

So what did you mean?

Alan

Forgotten mate .Deffo not magnetic though 🙄😁
edited to say Ah yes …..
I thought I read metal extraction rather than detecting .
Got a few things on the go on various computers mate and none of them are pornographic .

Then why quote me!!??!?!!??
You stated something we all knew that had not been brought to question while replying to me!?!?
Calm down Mr Bustagasket.I know it’s getting near tea time but you need to chill .Read above post ,breath ,relax .

'Splains it.

Sadly too late though for me....I had already made a nice little video of my Dr Otek pinpoint detector reacting to a 22 lead air pellet for you!

Not sure the statistics of over 50% use of internet for porn support your statement though. Just saying.

:)

😁
Where did I state I’m not a browser of said corruption ,just not today .Your vid will no doubt arouse others though 😎Some need the insertion of lead into pencil to perform ,for others it’s a daily function😁

No need to name call, very chill here, just wondered what you were going on about quoting me and stating something that had not been brought into question.
2 hands on the keyboard and read posts carefully:lol:

Few posters pointing out that you may have x amount invested in rifle and x amount in scope etc and therefore £40-60 on a box of 20 isn't even a consideration. Well maybe so if you're having a sighter or two before heading off for your annual freezer filling session...very nice.
I like others have many ££ invested in my gear and as such like to shoot it...lots.
Lucky I get work ammo supplied, but I also shoot for fun. This afternoon I've had a couple of rifles out and got through 60 rounds (buy those myself) so as you can see it has the possibility of getting out of hand expense wise.
So I'm guessing some people really don't shoot much if it isn't a concern!
.45-70, cast lead and black powder is the future! Be an interesting night shooting combo!

Of course it is of concern....rising prices always are...but the thread title claims it will end recreational shooting.

If the price of ammunition quadrupled would you stop shooting for fun, or would you maybe just shoot a few rounds less at a range session?

What cost per round price point would prevent you from shooting for fun?

The hypothesis "Ridiculous rates for ammunition will end recreational shooting" has generated some debate.

Has any one any ideas on reducing the price we pay?

We have become far too dependant on imports, be that completed ammunition, cartridges or the components to assemble them, So no quick fix and probably no long term fix, other than shoot less so total expenditure is the same.

No, we (the UK) are too small of a market.

There is an NZ company called Belmont whose founder is/was a target shooter. They got established at the right time (1967) when commercial venison hunting took off. At one point, NZ hunters used more ammo than the NZ Defence Force!

Their proximity to Australia and ADI (who make a lot of powder) helped too. Heck, Australia used to have quite a few factories, ICI, Winchester-Olin etc.

As far as I'm aware, only @Edinburgh Rifles and HPS are actually assembling centrefire ammo in the UK for the civilian market. All of this relies on imported components at the moment, so I'm not sure where a saving can be made.

There are also some jokers passing off their unproofed reloads as saleable ammunition, just because they have an RFD license.

What would really stir the market would be something drastic like opening all public land in Scotland to deerstalkers, but I doubt that would ever happen as politicians like nothing more than control and restrictions, as recent events have demonstrated.

That is often said, but look at all the brands that are keen to sell in the U.K. both for ammunition and cartridges if the cake is so small each slice must be tiny, so why so many so keen on a slice? Only conclusion is because the profit margin is better than outside the U.K.

There are others, but for discreet customers. Dealing with the general public is the difficult bit along with premises as distance selling is not easy in the UK or a network via a distributor taking the absolute **** (Viking springs to mind).

I know of one maker who is tendering for a large NGO for deer management.

It will be in the contract to have all ammunition made to CIP standard, tested at proofhouse (they are idiots-it means very little, they stamped the wrong calibre on one of my barrels) and thus ensuring repeatability and reliability of components.

Sadly, RG are not interested in expanding their customer base (could easily produce 308win, 30.06, 243, 22-250 and 223).

If the VOICE OF SHOOTING had any clout they would be knocking loudly on RGs door.

We still make 22lr in the UK.
