Rifle mounted torch recommendations

Hi, my led ray LED super powerful torch has given up after 12 years of outstanding performance. So, I need to replace it with something really decent. A quick look has shown me that these days there are literally hundreds of ‚suitable‘ torches on the market all claiming to be very good but with huge price variations.
Can anyone recommend something good that isn’t junk ? I’m also happy to buy a used one if someone has something knocking about in their cupboard that’s not being used.
Kindest regards, Olaf

Hi Olaf,

I'd reccomend looking at Acebeam, specifically the L19 (there is also a V2 out now, but this means the original is cheaper if you can find one!)

The benefit of these is that the tail switch puts it into full output (I believe they call it 'turbo mode') which gives you a good throw with reasonable amount of spill/flood. Easily shoot out to 200m and you'll get eyeshine past 300m.

Although I don't like to buy or reccomend things made in China, the Chinese are the market leaders in this field. The American options (Surefire) are usually much more expensive with lower specs.

As for mounting, I'd say get a good quality scope tube to picatinny rail adapter, or better still an objective bell mounted one (ERA TAC/Recknagel do one, but it is very expensive).

You can then mount the torch (body conveniently sized at 1 inch) to the pic rail via a cheap-ish picatinny scope ring with quick disconnect feature.

The cheap ring can then be tweaked to give you the best alignment of the beam.

I used to swear by my LED Ray lamps until I got one of these ... SNIPER HOG 66LRX TORCH WITH 1 X LED | Best Fox Call

With the red LED in it I can see eye shine from far further out than I'm willing to shoot at anything, and even positive ID is so distant it often out-legs my willingness to shoot. Buy the accompanying mount and use it with the rat-tail switch and you have the option of low power or full power on the switch.
In IR mode (with the correct LED) I have never needed to use anything but low power.

I used to mount my torch onto the scope tube using a picatinny ring mount but after missing an easy fox I checked the zero with and without the torch mounted. I found that with the torch mounted, POI was 4” lower at 200 yds, the mount being attached at the forward end of the tube.
I now use a picatinny half ring that replaces the half ring on my forward mount, this means that the weight of the torch is directly transferred through the mount to the picatinny rail on the rifle. The result is that I no longer get a shift in POI.

Just putting it out there... Ledlenser seems to be a very popular choice lately.
One of our guys swears by the Ledlenser P7R. We also heard good reviews of the more affordable Ledlenser MT10.
