Roe bucks - gone quiet?

Only seen the odd deer up till now (Roe) Several Munty's about even a fawn they have been a scarce sight up untill now. Not seen any Swifts or Swallows either in my area, a few House Martins and I mean a few. last week a Cuckoo was calling again.

BC.

Row bucks go very quiet in June. Tend to sit tight, feeding up before the rut. Managed to catch one out at the weekend but prior to that hadn’t seen a buck for the previous 2 weeks

Funnily I had a buck the other night after posting this.

But I still can’t quite get my head around the fact that when does are feeding and needing more energy, you see them everywhere. Allegedly, these bucks are stocking up and yet nowhere to be seen. You’d think they’d be more visible. But at least I’m not the only one finding this.

Do folks find they start to reappear when the rut kicks off? Or a week or two before this? Time to dig out my Richard prior book.

Deer, like any animal, including humans prefer not to waste energy.

Does have young at foot. They will leave them in deep cover and then will go a reasonable distance to then feed. They don’t want to draw attention.

But the woodland is only really just now starting to close in. There is still plenty of good fresh feeding in the deep woods, and the bucks will be feeding on this and storing up energy. They will by now have sorted a territory and really have little reason to anything other than sleep and eat.

I think most males will do the same - armchair, good supply of food - why go any where else.

Lots of sign on my patch, scrapes ,nibbles etc.
But only seeing does with all having twins.
Sat out for foxes on the farm several nights too, expecting a buck to wander by ,but none seen.
Took three weeks and lots of trying to get a single spiked mature buck a week ago or so.

Just been out and spotted a buck in long grass , just got into a shootsble position and he laid down. Had to wait an hour for him to stand up , shot at 103 yds
