Roe bucks - gone quiet?

Anyone else feel the bucks have gone a bit quiet? Still seeing bits and pieces. Mostly younger ones. Cover doesn’t help but I get the feeling it’s all the quiet before the rut.

Anyone else finding similar or still seeing the same amount as in May?

Cheers folks! You’d think the old lads would be out and about bulking up or chasing off youngsters but doesn’t seem to be the case. Probably enough to eat in the thick stuff. Nice to see the fawns on the go though. Probably a month at least before it picks up again? Hopefully it’s not a late harvest this year

Always happens around now.

Sod the roe bucks, time for fishing 👌

Roll on winter when the stalking is at a more socially acceptable time of day and the time to get fell in 👌
Hah probably! I’d a thought this morning that the mackerel will be well in as well. Away for some brown trout end of the month hopefully

I swear I have this thought process every year and yet I always feel if I’m in the right area, they should still pop out for a quick feed.. doesn’t seem so

Between now and the rut, I only ever seem to find them by mistake! Usually stumbling about in shoulder high bracken and flushing them.

Out last night and saw over 15 does and a single buck. Saw the buck just by chance - I had given up, and was walking back to the truck on a track high up on a steep bank, above a floodplain largely covered in thick bracken. One last sweep of the thermal showed a heat spot below me. Buck couched up in the bracken, just head and neck showing in a small gap. If I hadn’t been almost directly above, I’d never have seen him. Managed to get a shot, and then regret my stupidity carrying him back up the slope…

As has been said it’s fairly normal , they disappear and the next thing you know you have the buttolo out getting its annual work out.

Getting these 2 guys regularly on the camera
They’re not keen on venturing out into the open though
