Roe head in velvet, advice.

Just doing a skull for a pal, small poor buck just about to come out of velvet. It was his first roe and I got him onto it so thought it only right to mount it.

Almost impossible to get around the coronets clean. As I will colour the antlers up later, would the wise ones of SD just boil out the whole thing submerged ? or rely on the post boil jet wash to them clean ? 3D19D925-1BC9-400B-B22C-B3ABEF64F915.jpeg

Cheers all

I had exactly your dilemma this week, I did as you are proposing. The jet washer cleared it no problem, all hail the mighty jet wash!

A little off the main topic but how do you colour the antlers? I shot an ok buck last weekend and he is partially in velvet so I have the same issue. Ta

Potassium permanganate solution. Looks purple but dries brown. Leave antler tips white and while permanganate on gently wipe round coronets rim with cotton bud to expose white. Same with any pearling.

And a good rub of dubbin will give them a cracking finish. They can often dry very dull, and the wax replicates the polish they would achievement by fraying 👍

Looks good, nice thought to do that for him, will be a good reminder/memory of his first roe
What did you end up using on the antler?
