Came charging to the call tonight, taken by a guest. Several unattended does around, most have been bred, so the lads are desperate. I usually find this time quite productive.
5 roebuck shot Friday / Saturday gone, only one a small 4 pointer, paid any notice to the call at all. All the other shot were rutted out, thin back ends, low weights and no internal fat at all.
Just in from post diner dog walk. Saw 12 + roe and two foxs. Watched two young bucks chasing around one came through hedge and stalked it to about 40 yds. Looked v nice through Leicas very white tines. On way home saw mature buck chasing a doe. The foxs a pair worked up the sides of a drain towards us not bothered about us at all and lovely view at 90 yds. We were downwind. V warm and humid outside.

I only got to hunt pre-rut this year the thermal braking really was an utter disaster It was meant to be fixed weeks ago but took an additional two weeks to ship he only just got it back on Monday, I got a buck though that ran into our call so I cant really say It wasn't a good season for myself.
Were going up too our friends place tomorrow so perhaps Its not all over yet he's pretty busy with pheasants and I think our trip is meant to be really short but lets be honest... can you ever pop up to a gamekeepers house without being roped into doing a bit of feeding, and at that point you might stick around for a bit of afternoon deer shooting. And if the deer take too long e.g gralloching and dragging back you might as well go do some foxing as well lol.
A couple of nice representatives, only potential medal class one I let walk, he was a lovely beast too. Then an interesting 5 point, must be a gene as I’ve had 3 in that area (small stables) with 3 tines on the right antler and 2 on the left. Then 2x4 pointers that were never going to amount to anything.
