roe to sell. how much?

I think you are all letting it go a little cheap. I was on my way back from a stalking trip yesterday and stopped in the southbound Tebay services.

While having a mooch about the farm shop to stretch my legs, I came across the venison section. Rolled haunch selling for £21.90 a kilo!

God knows how much fillet would have been going for. I didn't look as I had to go and have a lie down!

Game Dealer 'Rip-Off' merchants!!

This is why I registered as a food business as I was astounded at the price difference between what we get as stalkers, to what they sell it for to the final consumer!!

They are selling Roe loin at £8.50 for a 200g pack. That works out at £42.50 a kilo!!!!!!!!!
It takes me about an hour to skin, butcher, tie up and vacuum pack a Roe at the most. I just calculated that they are selling a whole Roe for about £200 at those prices!
Let's say they paid one of us about £35 for it.
That works out at £165/hour for labour or £2.75/minute!
Nice work if you can get it eh?! ;)
Robbing Bazzers if you ask me!
I'd rather give it away than have them laughing at me as I walk off with a paltry sum. Oh, and whilst I'm having a little Rant! Then they have the nerve to insist that the animals are all head or neck shot or the price is massively reduced!! I'll be the judge of the most humane shot placement thank you very much! Game dealers = money stealers! ;)
I feel so much better now! I think I'll have a beer.

if you have to go out shoot, grolch, recover the carcase, skin it and deliver it i would charge £30-£35 for the carcase most game dealers will give about £25 for a roe with the jacket on (dependant on weight) i dont sell many carcases because i dont shoot that many but when i do if its for a pub exc i charge £30 jacket on your not ripping them off and neither are you doing yourself out of pocket
