Routine cleaning to prevent barrel damage

I clean whether I fire 1 or 100. I do load development using a cold clean barrel too. I can keep it consistent at clean and first round impacts are always where I put them. Couldn't give a toss what it does after 20 đŸ˜‚

I used to be in the not to clean camp and the next bullet will clear it until I had moisture in the barrel after a downpour only to find the next half a dozen rounds were off after a couple of patches were put through it

Yes - I guess that like pits, a rougher finish might improve with a good smear of jacket material. My worry is always what's going on under that smear while I'm not looking.
Perhaps give it a jolly good seeing-to with JB Paste, or similar?
Have done that to a few rifles.

Some shoot bullets with a fine cutting compound added to the bullet lube.

I guess that once the kids fly the nest and then retirement arrives one day, I might with some luck have time to start worrying about whether I need to clean the rifles more regularly.
