I am enlightened and educated and I shoot (a lot) and I also own a cat. I do not see how the last is incompatible with the previous.

Why ever would you want an arrogant ******* cat for a pet when you could have a dog?

I also have 4 dogs, however they are not pets. The cat was inherited when I married my wife but over the years I have started to like it ;-)

Steady on Jubnut one has to remember that the cat is the UK's number one pet. Not that i would have one myself but each to their own as they say. I take it the missing word was PUSSEY and that you did not want any rudey remarks

Can i just say about this feral cat and pet cat thing both types of cats can get Toxoplasmosis. Its not very nice to get and I have seen the consequences on the farmers little girl.

There is evidence that Toxoplasmosis in humans can

1 make you like cats (like the Toxoplasmosis makes rats like cats)
2 it can make you something like 10 times more like to have a car crash
3 change you personality

personally I wouldn't even touch a cat let alone have one in the house, and as for a litter box in the house well i wont go there.

Toxoplasmosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i have had to deal with Feral cats and the cat protection people wont touch them with a big stick as they have to feed vet them and re-home them but no one wants a wild hiss spiting banshie.

May I suggest you secure the out building therefore denying them access to shelter. They will have to move onto find shelter elsewhere.

Graham,

If you believe that its perfectly legal and done all the time, why use an air rifle which could be debated is not suitable for the job.
And I'm speaking as a cat owner who has twice in the past taken pet cats to the vets due to having been shot by an airgun!

the big difference is one is at point blank range in a trap and the other would have been kids taking pot shots.

In this case the best option is scaring them and forcing them to relocate so you don't have to do anything that may upset neighbours. Take away their source of shelter and food and try a few buckets of water if they stand their ground and hiss it soon makes them back down. There is a big difference between a true feral and someones pet we get them occasionally on our shoot and they can be huge and in a hell of a state. Last one I had had next to no teeth left and was trying to exist eating rape believe it or not.

Cats protection are well worth a call as are the council and push the fact they are having a go at the children they may well send a contractor round to trap them and save you any hastle.

Ring your local Council Environmental Health Dept.Explain to them your dilema they should or will help.
Any problems PM me.

It's amazing how "rspca and feral cats" can read as "recipe for feral cats" when you are speed reading .....

If they are definitely feral, and on your property, posing health risks etc, I would have no issues in trapping and removing, to be dispatched elsewhere. I often dealt with similar cases. And never once used a firearm in an urban or sub-urban garden.

I am a big fan of the big cats, tigers, lions etc,i watch the wildlife programmes all the time but I do not like regular house cats in anyway, waste of good grub to keep alive

my mrs has been goin on at me for the last 8 years about getting a cat, ive told her i was allergic to them or the dogs will eat it or it will get killed on the road outside.

Anyway, so now we have had a cat for the last 4 months, the mrs is happy ive shown that a relation can work if there is some give and take ( believe me i get to do what i want and that makes me happy ).

i go stalking for the wkend, she stays at home playing with her pussy to which i have grown fond of.
happy days:lol:

I would be very careful what I write on this open site as it is open to all to read and you never know just who is reading it. All it takes is a F.E.O to make enquiries with admin as to whom that person is making the comment and you have just lost your certificate. Don't forget, they only need a suggestion that you are prepared to discharge a firearm in a public place, and shooting cat's, regardless of what conditions you have on your certificate you can kiss it goodbye. It never ceases to amaze me some of the comments some people make on this site on what they would like to do and it must be giving shooting a bad name. If you think these sites are not monitored then you only have to watch the news and see people that have made comments on facebook and then been arrested by the Police the following day. Please gents, keep your thoughts to yourself and be careful on what questions you ask. Big brother is watching. P.S I am a cat lover and have cat's myself and would never intentionally harm any cat and would also suggest securing your building to deny access to the cat's and failing this, call the cat protection league who will catch up these cat's and relocate at a farm if not suitable to re-home.
