Rum (liquid form, not calibre)

Some of the very best was in the Dominican Republic, brand unknown but superb. The bush rum in Guyana was also very nice and could power rockets if needed. MountGay from Barbados also superb and smooth enough to have on ice or neat.
Had a bottle of the mount gay xo I think many years ago, was nice stuff.

There's a pub and bottle shop in York named 'The house of trembling madness', down in the basement they have a very nice selection of spirits which includes more than a few rums. I quite like the look of one or two of the pricier Mount Gay, maybe for my next big birthday in a few years, if you're reading this dear.
I don’t mind the Mount Gay rum but while in Barbados a local described it as urine for tourists.

I can't remember the name of the rum but I used to buy it in the Bahamas for approx $5 per 1.5 litre bottle

It was a dark rum

I ran (owned) a live aboard yacht at the time and that was our favourite tipple

When times were hard we used to mix it with cold tea !

Coke, lemonade etc being too expensive

Hik !

Curzon?

Mount Gay. Sprite and lime juice.
7 yr old Havana with a Cohiba
Rum,vodka, gin, triple sec, tequila with a splash of coke for those evenings when you just don’t want to do anything else.

Plantation and Doorly's in any guise normally hit the spot if I'm pushing the boat out. Appleton or Duppy Share will often find their way into the basket though, as I favour these out of the typical supermarket offerings.

Edit as I just remembered the bottle of Tortuga rum devoured at a friend's one evening. Absolute liquid gold, and I've never found another bottle since.

Probably the best rum that I have had is Zacapa, a gift from a Spanish friend. St James Plantation from Martinique also very nice.
In the pub I usually go for Woods or may be Kraken.
The Liberte from Lidl that they had last year was great for £15
I have noticed that a few of the spiced rums being pushed at the moment are labelled as "Spiced Spirit", which makes me wonder how much (if any) rum is in it or is it flavoured ethanol?

I spent a good bit of time in various parts of the Caribbean during my military time - and came to appreciate good rum.

For the most part - anything that has “anejo” or “gran anejo” is worth a try. In many (but not all) cases they create the aged golden rums by placing charred sugar cane (caramel on the raw) into the barrel.

For cheaper but decent quality I like DonQ gran Anejo (Puerto Rican) and Ron Barcelo Anejo (Dom Repub)

Yes if it's white rum Doorly's is my favourite 👍

My problem is that as much as I love my Spanish brandy, rum, port and absinthe, I also adore a plethora of other spirits, Ricard being one of them.
There simply isn’t enough time on God’s green and pleasant land to fully enjoy everything.
