RWS HIT ammo

Has anybody used the RWS HIT ammo ?

I’m thinking of trying them in my 7x64 as it seems that’s all I can get

It’s a lead free design which is a full copper billet with a hollow point of sorts, I’m not sure if it’s a polymer tip or just a coating

They say 100% bullet weight retention

How do they perform on deer ?

Do they act like a ballistic tip I.e a bit explosive or do the just deform and pencil thru ?

Any info great fully received

I used them in 300 Win Mag on Sika deer in Ireland a few years ago. Performance wasn’t ideal as they are really a tough game bullet and don’t expand well on Deer, clean pass throughs at 200 metres so I swapped back to other proven soft point ammo after that. RWS make a non toxic for lighter game, Evo Green or something is the name. The HIT were accurate though, just too hard for deer

They’re what I’ve been using now for the past year or so. Good bullets, I’ve had the occasional non typical reaction to them where a normal cup and core soft nose would have dropped on the spot but I’ve not had anything run on. More often things just don’t know they’re dead and look baffled before crumpling up and dying.
I know FC are using them round here too and swear by them.

The attached pic is off a yearling red hind shot at 210m earlier this week. She didn’t move, if I had one thing to say it’s that they seem to work better at range, and could be perceived as drilling straight through without as much expansion and lead alternatives at shorter ranges.
On the whole I’m happy with them.

I have got several boxes in 7x65r. They shoot flat and accurately. So far on a couple of Roe no issues and clean carcass. I tend to for the shoulder so ideal. They might struggle on pure through lung shots on small Roe. I think they will be good on Red etc.

RWS brass is good - my last lot has done 8 to 10 reloads.

Interesting video

Well just to update, I’ve bought a box of the RWS HIT ammo to try so I’ll let you all know what I think

They were excellent in my Sauer 404 7RM , shot muntjac, roe, fallow and red with it, dropped everything with minimum meat damage and extremely accurate.

I used them a few months ago when culling Sika Hinds in Dorset. Shot six animals at distances ranging from 30 metres to 200 metres and they performed very well.

Well shot an old buck this evening with 7x65r RWS HIT ammo 70 yard ish shot downhill lungshot. Kicked at the shot, ran 10 yards, stood for a few seconds before collapsing and rolled ten yards downhill dead. Very little carcass damage.

I bought some of these to trial. I have only shot one buck with them at about 75m - It dropped and had virtually no loss of meat from damage. I'm happy overall. Has anyone else tried them? I wonder if its just a nickel coated Barnes?
