Just a thought bubble fo the day and not going to the range anytime soon....

Does anyone know what distance the s&b 6x42 a4 reticle subtends between the cross hair and the thick posts at 100 metres?

Im wondering how usefull it would be for guaginging hold over and wind drift.

Do you meann the reticle 4A ?

140 cm between the thick horizontal posts. 70 cm from the thick post to the centre.

Don't know what you are shooting, but a .308 Win zeroed at 100 yards with something at 2.800 fps, would be on the thick vertical mark about 310 yards.
Zeroed at 300, it would be on somewhere 400 to 425.

But the drop between 300 and 350 is 9.0 inches, and the drop between 400 and 450 is 12.5 inches, so you really have to KNOW your load, the exact range for that stadia, and the distance to within 10 yards.

I have a German WWII sniper rifle with a Zeiss 6x with a 4A reticle on it, and you can be sure it was used at long range, probably with a 300-yard zero.

I have a Kahles 6x42 ZFM from an SSG-69, with a #4A tha has two hashes on the thin stadia, between the crosshair and the thick post, horizontal windage / ranging marks, vertical dashes for ranging 200-1,000 meters, and ballistic knobs - the modern incarnation, with multiple ways to range and compensate.
