S1 shotgun

His whole ticket or just the shotgun?

Not going to say out loud what my thoughts on the beater are…
Needs section 1 and 2 for employment so he scraped through revocation. Just lost the section 1 shotgun.
Lucky lad, just showing off presumably but has had his wings clipped somewhat 🤣

I can remember the talking to i got when i had my S1 8+1 .

When my cert was handed by my FEO who called to my home ( who later became a friend of mine ) reminded me ,it's not under any circumstances to be used for anything but vermin , not even Hares . Control of pigeons only .

To be honest i didn't have it long , i got on better with a well fitted OU.

Underkeeper local to me lost his 9 shot automatic last year. Using it on beaters day on their estate and forgot one of the beaters was a police officer 😳 within a week rescinded by Thames Valley.
Why did he lose it?
Once you've established initial "good reason" for a section 1 firearm, you're not supposed to be restricted on also shooting other quarry with it (eg, shooting a fox with a deer rifle).
Is it different for shotguns?

Way to support other shooting disciplines - not.
Why because my opinion of that discipline is not the same as yours I don’t have to like something to not be against it I’m not keen on running rabbits with dogs as sometimes the people doing it but I’m not against it and would hate to see it lost I’m not into following the hunt but again I’m not against a difference of option theses days seems to be the end of the world but what I don’t like is the fact 2 different sides of the shooting world getting treating differently when it comes to need and use of it was the other way it would be. A different story

@VSS I wasn't at the shoot but it was the talk of the locality for a while.
From what I heard,he was laying a barrage down at birds flying to other lads in the beating line, emptying the full capacity at birds till they dropped and generally being a silly boy with firepower.
The copper that was beating had a word at the end of the day with FEO on the phone from the car park, presumably to establish section 1 use against game.
Pulled his 9 shot, allowed to keep section 2 shotguns but plenty of words of advice against future behaviour.

Morning all just a quick one just put in for section 1 shotgun for pigeon corvid rabbit and fox control but have heard off a local rfd they trying to pull them back off people he knows of 3 in local area that have been told they need to get rid has anybody had similar experiences west Mercia it would be a shame really as I’ve got a genuine need for one and personally believe a person with a 9 shot in a hide is safer than a person running around doing practical shotgun but that’s just my option but I do appreciative all shooting thoughts

I agree that a fixed barrel shotgun has the feature of benefit that it can be loaded pointing skyward and does not need to be "broken" to load. OTOH in many years of shooting from a hide on decoyed pigeon I have never been able to fire more than four at most meaningful shots. With flocking birds such as gulls then yes. With woodpigeon no.

I’m not planning on shooting 9 in the air at once but will be handy for various types of bird or pest control how many times have you shot 3 shots and before you can reload more are dropping in...
Buy a gun like the old classic post-1950s Browning Auto-5 or its modern interpretation that has a "speedload" ability and your troubles are mostly solved.

I would like to see 9 pigeons that need shooting at from a hide at once, unless it’s just one and you need 9 shots at it 😊

Most shooting from a hide I find after 3 shots the pigeons are no longer in range.
If they are coming in in groups it does come in handy, not 9 but the 4th and the 5th do as you may get 3 for the 5 shots. Very few manage 1 for 1 consistently….

Rumours and whispers heard in gun shops are always best taken with a pinch of salt. I've heard enough tall tales and even a few outright lies in my time to know that.

If West Mercia want me to get rid of my S1 shotgun, they certainly haven't said so!

Will you not be able to use lead slugs on a range that captures lead, in the same way you will still be able to use lead rifle ammunition on certain ranges?

I may be wrong but I assume practical shotgun is rather like the good old days of practical pistol and use open space danger zones, field ranges with no fixed discernible butts to catch the lead projectile if so very difficult to capture and recover the lead. Eg like a disused quarry for example.
