Sad news as Blackdog Range closes.

Announced that Blackdog rifle range is closed with immediate effect, sad to see as shot there a few times and it’s been a rifle range for almost 100 years.

We seem to see a few close but rarely new ones open!

Have never shot Black dog but passed it many times heading to the Aberdeen clubs various ranges over the years.Not sure what the demand was like for Black dog.

The safety marker buoy was ripped off its mooring during the storm, there is a constant pressure from ramblers and they are developing housing around it….just too many things against it I guess.

Demand was good - plenty clubs wanted to shoot there.

That's disappointing,I know the Aberdeen club have the occasional trip down to Barry budding I thought that might have been down lack of dates.

Thats a real shame for those who would still have used it, I've spent many range days there in the past, first as a cadet and then in the TA. Saw some interesting private firearms when shooting alongside the public during the Wapinshaw competitions.

Know the lad that runs the clay ground there and they have been put on a short lease now as the whole place is going up for sale so presuming the rifle range has just pulled the pin.

Fond memories of shooting there as a child and then as an adult as well. Very sad news.

Nearly forty years ago I first shot (at) clays the DTL range there. Sad loss, more facilities swallowed up by the never ending expansion of cheap white boxes.
