Sako 75 value

Ahh but like trade in cars, very rarely does a private buyer get the opportunity to pay trade in rates for something. After all we all accept if we trade a rifle in we will get less than if we sold via private sale.

Businesses have to make a profit.

Probably reasonable to assume trade in may be around the £500+ mark. Retail £700+

A decent 75 stainless is worth £750 all day long in a popular calibre. A bit less for one that's not in fashion. I've paid upwards of a grand for tidy ones in rare calibres. In .308 and with proven good groups, I wouldn't hold out to try to find one for £500. You'll be waiting a long time!

Indeed a rifle that retains serious value (far more so than most) but try not to get carried away unless you’ve a bore scope and hopefully a riflesmith friend who knows what he’s looking at, otherwise you may be buying a lovely action and stock that needs a £600 barrel…

If the barrel is ok then I’m not certain you could buy better today non-custom, bar maybe Heym or Schultz and Larsen, both circa £2000.

Key concept bolts, much like the dreaded Remington J lock, should be avoided at all costs.
So it is said by some. However, I have two 75's with it and it has never done anything unexpected. I don't use it. It might as well not be there at all. No problem!

Had 2 over 17 years, never had any issues 🤷🏻‍♂️

Maybe I got lucky! The rifles nearly resale for what they were brand new, and are sought after for custom rigs, not all bad…,

£475-£500 for a rebarrel job requirement straight away.
£500-£700 for a rifle that has life in it, but will be needing work in the future.
£700-£1400 depending on condition and round count.
I would suggest that the most upper limit is for a verified, etc new rifle.
The price of a brand new one will increase....

They are fantastic rifles (actions) that straight out the box are near perfect.

I paid £950 for a very recently rebarreled 75 (had fired about a box of ammo) recently. 30-06 action IV.

Not sure whether that is over or under value but I don’t feel like I’ve overpaid when I use it.

Below is 3x Nosler BT reloads.

Definitely a very fair price 👍

Maybe for daytime stalking/high seat warming.

Dovetail does not allow for easy fitment of picatinny rails, options are either clamp types or the 'glue and screw' approach if you can't wait for a Canadian NEAR rail.

Not sure how much I'd trust the original Sako tapered dovetail with a 1kg+ optic and 34-40mm mounts. This system was the best available when it came on the L46 in 1946, but over 100 years later scopes and optic mounting systems have moved on.

Quality carbon/composite stocks hard to come by. 6+ months wait for a McMillan, which you have to have bedded as well. Easy £6-700 or more.

Aftermarket trigger? Yes, Bix'n Andy make one. Probably £300+ landed.

Magazine system works, but spare mags are expensive. If they are perfect, why do some ask for an AICS replacement? Yet, not commerically available.

Spare factory mags can be sourced, but you are looking at around £100 each.

Factory 'deluxe' models came with floorplates, attractive and functional but not in stainless steel.

All of this added expense for the privilege of having a Sako 75 action.

No thanks!

Sako designed the 75 as a stalking/sporting rifle not some tactical lump. If you want picatinny rails, large capacity mags and the ability to fit nv or scopes the size of a dustbin buy a TRG. As a stalking rifle it ticks all the boxes, best flush fitting mag on the market with the option of top loading, lay one next to a AICS mag and you will see where the manufacturing cost is, sensible barrel lengths as standard instead of the 20” fits all approach that came along with the 85 and a factory trigger that can be tuned down to a safe 1.5 lbs. Mcmilan have unfortunately stopped inletting for the 75 so if you want one it’s a flat top and inletting job. They did make a stainless floorplate but very early on in production and rare I’ve only seen one. Get a set of early production Optilocks the recent ones seem to be poorer quality and fitted correctly with a stalking scope they will work.
Find a decent 75, resist the temptation to flute the bolt, fit rails and big bolt knobs and just use it as it was intended as a stalking rifle. You won’t need another. When it stops shooting fit another barrel.

Pretty sure I know the original owner of that. If I'm right, it was a steal. It had barely done any work at all.
Are you still in contact with the owner njc? The key was missing when i went to pick it up. Rifle went in with an 8x56 s&b.

anyone wants to sell a 75 at £500 please call me first

Anyone wants to buy one expect to pay £700-1000 depending on condition, calibre, model and material (s/s vs. blue)

sold three this week and none of them were £500 ....
Do you have any stainless ones suitable for a 3006 rebarrel Ed?
Been let down on a 6.5x55
