Sako L61R mounts

Good day folks,
Looking for scope mount suggestions for a L61R. Rifle in question is chambered in .375 H&H
Never owned a Sako before and not too familiar with the dovetail setup. Do I need bases and rings, or just rings to fit the dovetail?

The simple answer is Sako Optilock bases plus appropriate rings.

Make sure you get the bases for Sako and not Tikka as the dovetails aren’t the same. However, Sako have stayed the same for a very long time (the only exception I can think of is anything marked for the A7 or S20).

Rings are then a case of picking the correct diameter and height.

As with anything shooting related, there are plenty of other options out there (one piece rings, rails etc) but the easiest thing to do if you’re mounting a ‘normal’ 1” or 30mm scope is the above.

Tend to agree with this. The Sako dovetail has been around for some time - may need some fettling to make bases fit properly. Putting a picatinny rail on is an option to then standardise rings id so inclined; I have done this to get the eye relief I need - scope movement is a little limited with Optilocks

Thanks for the replies. Scope in question is a Burris FF 3-9x40 so thinking low rings might work?

Yes, or extra low. Sako high are really very high.

If you’ve got a sporter weight barrel, you don’t need much due to the taper.

Is it 1”?

Yes, it's a 1" tube. Just the standard sporter factory barrel.

I have quite a lot of my old Sako dovetail mounts, incl the older windage adjustable jobbies, all used, so no cabinet queen stuff if you get stuck.

Optilock 30mm rings and bases (for Sako) all blued. These are medium (I believe) - £60 SOLD

Optilock 25mm/1” rings, blued. These are low (I believe) and two of the eight grub screws are quite chewed (represented in the price) - £20

Optilock 25mm/1” rings, stainless. These are low (I believe) and are in good condition - £40

Warne 25mm/1” picatinny rings (medium) in good condition - £30 SOLD

Just a word of caution - look at how much set back you need on the scope before ordering the optilock bases (I used two blobs of blu tack to get an idea before sourcing bases)
Also consider the one piece sako optilock ringmount (if you can find them)

It’s expensive heading east, but to ship to you from UK is fairly cheap.
