Sako powerhead

Does anyone know what the difference is between sako powerhead blade, powerhead blade pro and powerhead 2?
I cant find any info on the powerhead 2 on sako website!

The pro is a redesigned blade for expansion at lower terminal velocities, with a redesign in profile to optimise BC to compliment.
Unsure on how much practical difference this offers, but I’m sure once they’re more widely available people will be able to report back.

The Powerhead 2 used a Barnes TTSX bullet, but Sako has superseded this and now uses their proprietary blade and blade pro bullets in that line.

So are the powerhead 2 coming to an end?

The Pro is loaded for longer range ‘hunting’ so has improved BC but I’d be VERY surprised if the metallurgy of the bullet, ie how it expands, is any different to the standard bullet.

You may be right - they may have tweaked the design of the hollowpoint inside though to aide expansion.

I’m only going off articles and advertisement I’ve read about the Blade bullets as I don’t use factory loaded ammo!

Good point well made, the internal design could have been tweaked.

I’m going to be transitioning over to Powerhead Blades at some point - already have .308 & 6.5 bullets, need to source some in 6mm at some point as well.

A look at the pics on the Sako web site suggests that the Pro may expand more easily. Hopefully penetration will still be sufficient at shorter ranges. I have some 130 Pros incoming, but it will be some time before they are used. Whether they will be as good on 150kg animals as the 130 TTSX remains to be seen.

Worth noting is that the standard Blade 308 162gr has been revised. I have seen several used in 308 factory ammo on large deer which have shed the petals- perhaps this led to the revision ?

I’ve been using the Powerhead Blades in 6.5 for the last 6 months or so, very accurate, very expensive but starting to get disappointed and frustrated with effects on the deer.

With Fallow I’ve noticed smaller exits with some poor blood trails (used Gamehead before which were pretty destructive) and a few where the bullet hasn’t exited.

Has anyone experienced similar or could recommend an alternative non toxic factory ammo?

Has anyone has much experience using the Pro at longer ranges now they have been out a while/the hind season's been open a few weeks?
