Sako S20

I’ve had one for a few months, accurate enough, nice concept - the rattley magazine was annoying on a rifle in this price point and you shouldn’t have to stick felt pads to it but that has solved it. The side mount QR sling swivels are good and I put a set of Sig Sauer offset mounts and they sit high but it’s comfortable to shoot.

the bolt isn’t the smoothest ever but it’s not too bad. The trigger is adjusted quite stiff (over 3 1/2 lbs when I got mine) but that depends what you like.

If you are in Aberdeenshire you are welcome to have a few shots with mine.

Gixer

So, apart from the magazine rattle, the intermittent nature of cartridge feeding for a second or subsequent shot from said magazine, the trigger weight, the apparent differing views as to the slickness or otherwise of the bolt, the weight of the bolt lift, the roughness of the bolt handle, and the faff commensurate with changing the stock/fore end -

apart from extra sling mounting points, is there anything else to commend it over and above other rifles??

I've got an s20 in .243 and it's a dream to shoot not had any issues. Only had it a fortnight out of the box 5 groups all sub moa need to find a good load

It’s pretty accurate so far....(kind of its main purpose!) that do you?

I have a 6.5 Creedmoor S20 (Hunter stock) which I’m really happy with. None of the issues as per Chris Parkins review.
Excellent groups using a variety of 130gr ammunition.

Take a look at this review by Chris Parkin:

I thought it was an honest, well done look at the rifle.

Ben

I have to say, those feeding issues after the first shot would put me *right* off buying one of these. Granted, it's just that particular rifle, but I wouldn't feel relaxed ordering one after seeing that - it's a very serious fault in my book.

Also, 3.5kg is surprisingly heavy. My long-action synthetic Sako 75 is less at 3.3kg; if I remember right, the medium action (.308 etc) equivalent is 3.1kg. I would have thought a more modern rifle would be lighter, instead of heavier.

I quite like the look of the thumbhole stock version on the S20, but not at all the bolt handle.

I will say mine hasn’t had a feeding issue - just the rattley mag which did annoy the crap out of me as it was an audible rattle when walking with it slung.

I wonder if it was just a mag that needed a little wearing in for the feeding issue. You can I clip the plastic mag and stretch the spring but as I said before these are things you should not have to do on a rifle of this price point.

I was never a Sako fan, however, bought one to see what all the fuss was about and so far I still don’t think it’s an “amazing rifle”....it’s good but has a few minor issues. Anyone that thinks it’s a smooth bolt needs to go and try a rifle with a real slick bolt like a mannlicher, Heym or Sauer.

you can see in the vid that when he lifts the bolt it catches the round better when chambering.

Gixer

Never had any feeding issues and used it hard since getting it last Sep including up on Arran. Rattly mags quickly sorted with some Velcro patches and I’ve got the Sako HGR sling which works well. It is heavy and having a dS on it does not help but it’s compact and good to handle, especially with the F&D FW196 mod. Last picture shows the differences between my S20, 75 and X-Bolt. Overall, better that my 85 and makes my 75 look and feel old. Happy customer :thumb:

Any feed back on the Sako S20 and what scope and mounts are you using with it
Using a zenith 3-12 on my 308 with tier one rings and it's perfect.. my only complaint is that my mod is too heavy for the end (sl7i) so need to invest in a lightweight yin.
