Sako s20

Greetings...Thinking of adding a sako s20 in .308 to my collection just wondering if anyone has info on the feeding issue they had when the rifle first came out and if it has been sorted..cheers....

I originally had a Sako S7 in .243 which I couldn't have been happier with. Taking a guided stalk before re-grant of the FAC earlier this year, the guide had an S20 in .308. 800g heavier, it hadn't even been a remote consideration until I handled and shot. Now, I have one in 6.5CM. It is so well balanced and handles so well, I much prefer over the lighter A7 (one of which I also own in .243 for Foxing). If there was any form of feed issue with previously, I haven't experienced any issues with mine.

Right on the top end of weight for a stalking rifle. Walk around for 2-3 hours and you will know about it.

Feed issue was only an issue with some early rifles. Mostly due to the mag I believe.

The split rail can make fitting some nv/thermal scopes a pig due to the reduced eye relief. The split rail limits mounting positions.

I have never seen that many stock spacers on a rifle before!

Have one in .308… zero feeding issues to date. I like it a lot - Accurate and not ammo fussy.

Reassuringly weighty but not heavy in use, plus comes with side mounted swivel cups for a biathlon type sling which makes carrying it long distances a doddle.

I have one in 6.5PRC, it's the thumbhole stock "hunter" configuration
I can't fault it, it was slightly heavier than I expected, but the result of that is that I have no problem keeping sights on target out to 200m or so - the felt recoil is quite tame
No feeding issues at all, and no magazine rattle either - something I had heard other folk complain about
I put a piccatinny rail on mine which gets rid of the gap in the factory split rail
One of the best things is that it doesn't seem to be fussy on ammo, groups anything I've fed it so far into sub 1" groups or tighter

In short, I love it, it's easily one of the best rifles I've owned

My fried has one in Sweden his complaints mainly come down to:
Rusty
Won't feed properly
He told me a gun shop wouldn't take them in part ex
We went to a second gun shop who wouldn't take then, and had new ones no one wanted

My observations:
I rather liked the ergonomics of the stock but it feels made to a price. Ive seen but not shot the carbon one,
looks cool but comes at a hell of a premium

With the current state of the market I'd get one of the myriad second hand bargains that are out there

The stock and bedding was the prime reasons I ordered before its release and actually handling one. In the flesh, it was much heavier than I had expected but in those days (pre my second bout of cancer) I was fitter and the rifle I did 13 weeks on the BASC's Arran scheme so it got lugged through some challenging stalking in poor weather with numerous drops and falls along the way. It took all that fully in its stride without issue and I had confidence in its performance at range. No rust issues whatsoever, but I always dry out the rifle after a soggy day on the hill and pull through with a boresnake as well as a quite wipe down with an oily rag. Its stainless steel under Cerakote which, despite my abuse, hasn't worn or chipped (unlike my Tikka Wideland Veil). I also packed the stock with microfibre cloth to "deadened it". Sadly, I progressively moved to lighter rifles and prefer the ballistics of the .270 now rather than the loopy .308 so it now tends to get few outings and those are predominately fixed position ambushes rather than my typical armed walks.

I won't be getting rid of mine any time soon (🤞) and, with the generous assistance of @Mountain Bug bug on here, have recently dropped it into a new Strato Cammo stock 🤗. I'm about to fit some Warne Magne-Tech QD mounts to switch between an Alpex 4k LRF and the original fit Swaro Ds - a heavy rifle made heavier but those sights  It does however make a great culling tool!
