Barrel not consistently shooting.
Borescoped this evening and the barrel is in a bad state. Rifle regularly cleaned and well looked after. Probably 300-400 rounds down the barrel.
moderator always stored off rifle.
rifle always well oiled.
Other than evidently needing a rebarrel with a price tag.? What to do.?
Anybody experience this before with this rifle.?
Anyone out there in the same boat or been there before.

Forgot to mention:
Rifle has been bedded into carbon stock,
Everything on rifle has been check for accuracy. Scope, mounts etc..
Shot with two scopes, one of which is brand new the new vortex razor.3-15
Shot moderated and unmoderated.
shot with bullets both reloaded and factory from 110gr upto 150gr. And never grouping consistently.

Rifle groupings inconsistent.

Don’t know if I would have confidence to have a Sako barrel on it again. Have had 3 85s and only one has been a shooter.
thought by moving to a premium Sako this would be the solution.

No worries. You shooting with the mod on or off?

Seen this with my mates tikka and the mod was on too tight the bloke in the Gunshop said? Worth a look.

Have shot it with both on and off. No difference. Barrel is well pitted inside. The whole way up the barrel. Quite a few big machine marks in the barrel also. Barrel has never been a consistent shooter.
Got it bedded etc. No improvement made.

only fit for a rebarrel now. Anyone have any joy with Sako.?!
Thanks again for the reply.

What cartridge is that? One reason I prefer stainless barrels. Yes they can rust but way less.
Some of those groups don't look too bad. Keep using the silvertips for a wile without cleaning.

.270 Winchester. Tried everything shooting bullets for a while, get more inconsistent all the time. Can’t rely on groups. Can open up at any stage.
tried fouling it up also, to no avail. Cleaning rigoursly too.
None of these strategies to any avail.

Get a stainless barrel fitted, some barrels are like flogging a dead horse.... waste of time.
You could even go 280, 284 or 30-06. Now you would have all the choices. From pre-chambered Lothar Walther right up to Bartlein fitted from an expert.

has it not shot well from new ?.Just wondering why after 2years you decided to boresope it.

Not shot well from new, but thought it could not be the barrel. Had it bedded. Have tested most ammo out.
Never thought the barrel would be pitted .?
My expectations of Sako and their barrels clouded my mind abit.
I knew their was bedding issues but thought that was it but-now I know it’s not.

Planning on a proof research rebarrel again in .270 Winchester. But such a shame putting so
Much money into a premium Sako and then having to rebarrel it.
You would expect more from Sako and their rifles.
Would have had a really nice full custom build to spec with the money I will have spent on the rifle, bedding issues and now rebarreling.

Looks fine to me as a hunting rifle. Pitting and or rust may not necessarily affect accuracy much. If you are expecting benchrest accuracy using a sporting rifle with factory ammo then you are asking too much.

If there 1" squares then that's not to bad. I've 3 sako85s and a 75. They have always been top class quality. Never let me down. What has caused the pitting?
