On the hunt for a rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor

I have narrowed my choices down to

A barrel for my 404 I currently have a 223 barrel fitted for roe.

Or a new sauer 100 XTA.

The 404 is a known commodity I don’t know any one shooting a 100.

I am open to other suggestions, if anyone has anything around lightly used that they are considering parting with I’m open to suggestions. But mainly looking for sauer 100XTA users opinions.

The tikka T3 lite or CTR has been considered as well but with new pricing the gap between the sauer is small, with the sauer having a much better stock in my opinion.

If you intend to use both chamberings frequently the second rifle may be a better option but if not - get the barrel…would be my advice.

You may also find you no longer need the 223 and can sell that barrel as the creedmoor should cover everything.

Gixer

Thank you, I need to maintain one 223 for some foxing and the odd roe at the back of a housing estate. The 6.5 makes a little to much noise, in real terms Propably not a great concern but it keeps me away from going to just the 6.5.

A few areas i shoot have a lot of ground cover all year and require shooting from elevated positions. That is the intended use of the 6.5.

The 100 seems the best option, a tikka CTR has been considered but fancy the sauer more as it seems a better stock for not a lot more money than a T3 lite.

I would say it’s definitely a better stock! Tikka stocks are like recycled McDonald’s toys…😂

Hi I have a Sauer 404 in 6.5x55, I also had a Styer scout in 243, changed the Scout for a Sauer 100 in 223, the way I looked at it, it would have cost me the price of another rifle to change barrels, bolt head, ect on the 404, so why not have 2 Rifles, also sells better.

I have tried the multi barrel route with Blaser and it stayed in the same configuration 99% of the time.

Swapping barrels I just had to check zero and even though repeatability was 100% it was always at the back of my mind.

I've owned Sauer's in the past and currently have a 100xta in 6.5 Creedmoor. It would be fare to say the 100xta is a tool and a very good one but the price is reflected in the build and its no 202 / 404.

The Tikka options again are superb rifles as is the 100xta but there not as refined as the 404.

So to that end in your dilema I'd go with a barrel on the 404.
