Sauer 202 opinions?

I now have 2 of them, bought my first in 243 and liked it so much I saved and got another in 308. The 243 is a classic xt fluted and the 308 is a synchro xt. Both are incredibly accurate, slick to operate, the safety catch is silent and I can't fault the build quality. I have tried the switch barrel system and its return to zero has been perfect. I also like the set trigger. I have had and used a lot of different rifles and can honestly say that I won't change them.

Have a .308 202 elegance, can’t fault it, never personally had an issue with bullet feed jamming. Not really worth mentioning accuracy as most rifles achieve sub inch groups. However haven’t found ammo it doesn’t like yet all brands I’ve tried which is around 6 different manufactures shoot within 3” of zero to my home loads and group consistently. Not a rifle I’d consider changing. The safety is a nice feature, a button in front of the trigger that is silently operated and pushed up before the shot is convenient and well throughout, a button on top of the pistol grip that you push down with your thumb to re engage the safety catch, very silent and doesn’t require extra movement to switch.

202 stutzen elegance this is a lovely rifle but it did give its share of problems with the fore end. Stutzens fore ends generally (any brand) can be a bit hit and miss, but I understand the standard 202 forend rifles gave trouble too.
Thankfully all seems to be fine with it for the last few seasons.
If I could change anything, it would be the trigger, I have no time for set triggers and the single stage is too heavy.

I think they are one of the prettiest rifles out there .But I think they have over complicated what could have been aa straight forward no nonsense rifle like a sako, with barrel swap options, swing off mounts and a poor fore end design. There will be plenty of people out there who constantly swap components around without issues and hats off to them. Fine when it works out but a headrecker if something is slightly out. If you want a modular rifle that you can reliably swap things around, then get a blaser (my other rifle).
I would avoid the apel swing offs over complicated & over engineered, there are more straight forward options.
So a mixed bag from me but would I buy again ? Yes, that slick bolt, accurate and a looks great.

I really wanted a 202 for a while and then used one and disliked the position of safety so much it put me off which is a shame as they are a well engineered rifle with really nice options for furniture.

I would add three points.
I had trouble holding zero on my well used 2nd hand synthetic in .243. It proved to be a stripped mount hole previously over- tightened into the synthetic receiver (I think this is not uncommon). A few days with Steve Bowers fixed that.
I could not get it to group under an inch with Winchester ammunition. I recently swapped to Sako 90gr, it now shoots cloverleafs
The safety catch is a real marmite design, you love it or hate it. I love it and really wish I had the same on my Anschutz.

I bought mine, in .308, from Frankonia in Hannover in 1996 and it's still going strong. Having to put a finger inside the trigger guard to take off the safety during an unload concentrates the mind at first, but it's like anything else, you just have to get used to it.
I'm not a fan of set triggers, so I never use that feature on mine, but the normal trigger pull is excellent, it breaks cleanly with absolutely no creep.

Also big fan, yes they are expensive , however they will last a very long time. Mine is a heavy barrel 308 , on the range it shoots as well ( or badly) as an AI out to 1000 yards . I also have an old 200 model, and its still a beautiful rifle, only thing is some dont come with swivel stud for a Harris bi-pod, but this is easily fitted.

Looks like factory gecko 105 and Sako 90's will do the job. Nice to have a calibre I don't have to reload for!
