Sauer 404 disassembly issues

Hi All,

Asking for a friend who has a 404 and cannot get the foreend to come off.

He said he has had it off previously but we cannot seem to get it to slide off now even with considerable force applied. Has anyone had this happen and know the cure before we go to the gunsmith and the inevitable bills associated.

Make sure its unlocked, it can be very stiff, small bit of vaseline will help in the future.

It seems to unlock ok, you can feel the quarter turn happening ok but just doesn’t want to free and unwilling to go ape on it in case we break something.

Hi,

I had the issue a few times. The key is ensuring the locking mechanism has been released. Also make sure no oil on the fore end whilst fitting back to the rifle. The oil even a little created a seal on mine.

Make sure when you put the tool in that you push it up and then turn it to release
