Sauer 505 user experiences ?

I have a old Sauer 202 and my friend has a R8 where his wins is the fact the barrel and scope mount together and this makes the interchangeable barrel system work as so long has you can afford it every barrel/calibre has a scope attached and is immediately zeroed ready to shoot. The Sauer system requires re zero every barrel/calibre change…. Anyway I’ve only got one barrel for it but at least theoretically blaser is a better system. My friend has three or four barrels and scopes and enjoys the switching. Mind you the price of barrels he could have 3 or four rifles for only a bit more. But if moneys no object??
No need to re zero on the 404 certainly with mine i didnt.

I'm guessing it's the same with the 505

Well you say that but never had any issues with the aluminium chassis that makes up the 404. Wouldn't say a steel action "rips them apart" exactly, they do the same job.

The steel action is nice but I'd say is unnecessary in modern switch barrel sporting rifles. As the action just holds the barrel and bolt in the action, theres no pressuer.

Only benefit I could see is the wear and tear from the heavy recoiling african calibers which sauer did in the steel action anyway and sold hardly any of.

The build quality is far superior on all levels, no plastic bits and tolerances are stunning. Accuracy off the shelf with the LW precision lapped barrels is in the 1/4-1/2 moa, and I’ve tested a few.

Bolt is silky smooth and has a rotating 3 lug head, so you get the strength and integrity of a turnbolt, in a straight pull. Double stack magazine also means you don’t have one ‘sticking out’.

rumour has it Sako are trying to clone the steel action and have one in their workshop. Naughty naughty!! Let’s see if they get away with it legally first of course!

I’ve got a 202 as well (well now 2) and have no issue with good picatinny rail and mounts changing barrel and scope to maintain zero.

The 404 looked good and enjoyed playing with a few expect the same as the 505 but not sure I need to replace my 202s

I have one in .243 since last August.
I like it a lot but can't make it group with any non lead ammo, is currently back at the importer for testing, waiting to see what have they got to say...
I suspect yours is a bit slow in the twist rate? a standard 243 win with lead 100 grain is close to the limit / 100 grain copper is longer again . Have you tested any 80-85 grain copper in this rifle ?

I found the best ammunition for it finally, 85 grains Wapiti HP, I can put them through a key hole at 100 meters.
They are running at 3145 fps.

Yes, 1:10 , they don’t do a 1:8 in .243
I tried every copper ammo under the sun but no joy. Two different high end scopes as well, mod on and off and so on…
Copper wont group if you have had lead down the barrel. You'll need to scrub it clean and then use copper, and vise versa when going to lead from copper.

I’ve experienced an issue with a .308 after running copper and lead alternating. Well might be the subsonic rounds I was playing with. As we know subsonic is dirty.

It’s something to be mindful of in any case when swapping any ammunition. Don’t rely on your last time out and check the zero is my advice.
