Scope for 17hmr

Just putting it out there to see what scope is preferable or being a choice for a 17hmr. I'm awaiting my FAC processing and now window shopping for the addons. I do like a traditional tube scope and looking at the hikmicro alpex A50EL as I want to cover night use and have a LRF. Though it is quite a heavy scope and added to the rifle along with IR torch and mount and then a moderator the weight I'll be looking at will be coming in around 10 - 11lbs.

Just bought the alpex 4KLRF and it’s not overly heavy tbh but it’s going on my .223

Ive got a lightweight CZ HMR and have it topped with a DNT Zulus 5-20 LRF

The Hawke sidewinder half mil dot reticle is good for an HMR. The first notch down is 150 yards and I don’t thinks it’s too heavy on my cz457 even with a pard 007 strapped to it.

I prefer traditional scopes on an hmr because sometimes you need the high mag and precision they offer over a dedicated night scope that gives a clear picture at 7 mag at best.

Don't buy a so called varmint barrel!
I currently have a pard ds35 scope on my 457 17hmr. Without IR model or laser.
With an IR light fitted the whole unit is still nice to carry.View attachment 409949
I started my search looking at the 457 Varmint 20" with walnut stock. I like a wood stock and also like the look of the rifle with the Varmint barrel. I know there are weight savings to be made with the synthetic non Varmint and you now have me looking at the synthetic though I'd still like the Varmint barrel but can't seem to find a synthetic 457 in 20" Varmint..... My reasons for the switch isn't only weight savings but reading more on the synthetic I think it would be more robust and durable and unaffected by the changes in weather conditions... Maybe the 16" barrel is the way to go... That's will be another thread to find thoughts on 16" vs 20" 🙈

Those are the two scopes I narrowed my search down to. I may very well still go the DNT zulus 5-20 root. The only gripe I would have with the 4KLRF would be the built in batteries, there is no given lifespan of these and scope would have to be sent off to change them. Having said that it's possible that they could out live me!

I initially started of looking at the traditional scopes and then the pard NV addon...... There are so many good options that are available which certainly don't make the choices easy for us!

I know...... But I like how it looks on the rifle 🙈
You can't see it when it's across your back!

The times I've heard folk justifying a heavy barrel and then selling it or not using the rifle!

They are for target shooting or prairie dog shooting. Not walking around.
